Story Genius is such an interesting workbook for Story Writing! I read John Trubys Anatomy of Story and Save the Cat writes a Novel and neither helped me starting to plan. But the Idea to focus solemnly on the Protagonist and his past and Worldview etc helped so much, because everything that seemed to be important for my story just came out of my Protagonists past! John Truby always emphasizes, that a story should grow organically and thats exactly what Lisa Cron helps doing with her approach. Loved the book!

Totally agree! I find myself reaching No for Story Genius any time I’m trying to develop a new idea and Anatomy of Story/STC when I’m more focused on structuring the story well either in my outlining or revision phases. Love that there are resources that resonate at different times in the writing process 🙌🏻

Thank you for doing this, and for using your real and authentic draft. I really appreciate that you kept commenting on your thoughts behind each decision. I think we can all learn from listening to others, even if we are working on completely different projects. Personally, I've a long way to go before line editing, and I don't really know what I'm gonna feel about it. You, and probably every author, puts so much effort into making the absolute most out of each line and choosing the most suiting words. I guess I'm either gonna love or hate doing all that work. With that said - great work, I'm impressed!
@LeahRummel

As a fan of both, I love both shows, while they're not perfect, they're still good. The only difference are the fans, the PJO fans are saying that the show is good, because Rick is involved, so if anyone criticized the show, then they think that it's wrong. While ATLA fans opened up abt the criticism, but also take it too far, I got death threats for liking the show, and the fandom bullied the cast, especially Azula's actress Elizabeth Yu, just because she's not attractive to play a 14 year old. The only thing I found the two fandom similar, is that both of them has toxic sides

i watched the percy jackson series after adoring the books since 2008, and got into ATLA around 2009. i watched the whole atla live action series and it was consistently awful in its set up and pay off (yue being a fox spirit didn't even play into her, say, being the one to know or discover that the koi fish are tui and la, or something). i think atla had an uphill climb bc it was tv to tv, but like 90% of the changes the percy jackson series made (with basically the sole exception of sally's arc being removed - but like, if they had to take something out, this was the thing tbh) were to improve continuity and emotional intensity, ie. mailing medusa's head having consequences, poseideon giving 4 pearls rather than 3 like in the books, etc. even the core of percy and annabeth's conflict being about worldviews about family and parents > just their godly parents being rivals. i watched pjo first, loved it and was very relieved/glad it was good, watched all of netflix atla, and then went back to watch pjo to cleanse myself, lol. while both are exposition heavy, pjo's dialogue being so much more natural + the trio actually feeling like a trio felt like a miracle after whatever was (unfortunately) going on with natla.
@LeahRummel
@LeahRummel 3 ай бұрын
I totally agree! It felt like a lot of the changes had a purpose that I could SEE which meant they felt like worthwhile changes to me. To me the biggest thing in general was how big of a part that emotional journey played a role because the book really isn’t that intense with the god/family/themes of it all? Like that’s stuff we get into in later books but they really pulled that in strong for season one which I think will set up a lot of interesting growth later
@leilahussain9171
@leilahussain9171 2 ай бұрын
Exactly! I feel like a lot of people complain about the kids knowing everything but that change made so much sense to me. I was twelve when I read the lightning thief and I was so annoyed with Annabeth and Percy for falling into really obvious traps that Grover was warning them about. It made absolutely zero sense that they wouldn’t be able to see those traps coming when I, with a Greek mythology threshold of a second grade Odyssey novela, could. Percy took a Latin class for a year with Chiron, who paid special attention to him because he was trying to prepare him for the demigod world. Annabeth had literally been at camp for her entire childhood training to go on a quest and she had been on the run when she was a kid (and survived). If anyone should’ve been attuned to traps, it should’ve been her. I get wanting to show that they’re kids who are in over their heads but there are better ways to do that and the tv show did it better imo.
@PercyJacksonkid
@PercyJacksonkid 3 ай бұрын
Okay. So the reason I think that there are so many mixed opinions about the Percy Jackson Tv show and Avatar the last Airbender live action is because people grow up with these characters in their childhood. For example with the Percy Jackson books you’re going on adventures and quests along side the characters and you get to know them and relate to them. But with the 8 episode live actions it just doesn’t feel the same because it doesn’t feel like you’re going on month long adventures with the characters so you don’t get to relate to them that much. I think that is why people were saying the PJO tv show was “Fast paced” or that the writing for Avatar the last Airbender was dry. When you’ve grown up with these characters it be hard to see that their personality changed a bit in the live actions or that some scenes changed or other scenes were added that weren’t in the original. Most fans who have grown up with these fandoms want an accurate adaptation. But like you said the word adaptation means change and you cant have a proper adaptation if there are not changes. Ofc everyone has their own opinion tho
@LeahRummel
@LeahRummel 3 ай бұрын
I totally get that! The PJO show definitely did not waste a single second which I think as a kids show makes sense to have quicker pacing. I do appreciate just how much of the book content they were able to squeeze in there. But I feel you that it can affect the way we view the characters. Like so much of Percy’s sass comes through his internal monologue in the book but you can’t exactly do that in a show and have to find other ways to inject that humorous part of his personality. Definitely makes me appreciate the writing in the original series and in the original ATLA show

As soon as the Percy Jackson series ended I immediately took to the internet to see if they'd be filming a season 2 (they are, and I'm excited to see how they can improve on and refine what they've already accomplished!). I didn't even finish watching the ATLA series. I think I actually gagged when they went to the spirit world. That was really sad for me because I wanted it to be good, I even skipped to some better episodes (basically I skipped to the parts with Zuko and Iroh). You're totally right about them being unable to capture the spirit of the original source material of ATLA, where the new Percy Jackson series really nailed both the characters and a lot of the dramatic story beats.

Yesss I’m so excited for PJO season 2!! I really hope it keeps the traction for them to finish the whole series especially since we’ve never seen 3-5 adaptations at all. I started watching ATLA at double speed to get through it for this video 🥴

Kofi has been good for me with an already existing client base but it’s weakness is it doesn’t pull in new clients. So if you’re just starting out on any freelance work I’d recommend Fiverr over KoFi but if you have an existing client base I’d recommend KoFi for its lack of fees. My work has slowed since switching to KoFi but this was intentional since I did not want to take on new clients and I have been focused more on building my crochet business recently. Hope that helps!
