Hey bro... I'm from Indonesia... and next month I will go to this country... Can you make another video about the country of American Samoa, thanks...

American Samoa is very small. The Island, Tutula is 47 miles long. It is essentially a long oval. It has windward and lee sides. Pago Pago is on the lee side and the sea has no serf there. The other side does. There is one road, on the shore, that goes around the Island. There is a little village every five or so miles. I lived in Lauli'i. I'd go to Pago Pago (pronounced Pango Pango) get a room and ask around for things to do. Find a nice beach and go skin diving. The water is shallow, warm and clear. Get flippers, a mask and a snorkel and the world will open up to you! Non-native people are called "palogies". People are nice, but don't cross them. Talofa!

A funny thing about visiting Samoa. If you are walking along and someone is approaching you, to be polite they will shout out, "Where are you going!". The proper response is to point forward and shout, "There!" No need to give details about where you happen to be going. They will smile and proceed with their walk.

I haven't been to Samoa for 60 years, but when I visited the Island the mosquitos would carry you away. If you wanted to catch some rays on the beach the mosquitos wouldn't leave you alone. So bring bug dope. While the coral is beautiful it is also extremely sharp. Never swim barefoot! Wear sneakers. As you swim out to sea you will come to the edge of the reef. Beyond the reef the sea falls away and becomes a deep blue. There are sharks out there and sometimes you can see some, but at least when I was there, they never came into the shallow water where I was and you will be. Swimming in the lagoon was beautiful, safe and warm. It is really out of this world.

Something else about Samoa. While civilization clings to the coastline as the road runs around the Island, inland it is deep green jungle. The skyline is dominated by a tall, very green mountain. I think it has an official name, but everybody calls it the "Rainmaker", because when one cannot see the top of the mountain it gets angry and it rains. Now no matter how hard I tried to tell people that the weather had to do with the cloud cover and nothing to do with the Rainmaker Mountain I could never convince anyone that. They had lived with the Rainmaker for thousands of years and they knew.

Tutula is covered by an inland jungle. It is a classic three canopy jungle which is something that Americans do not experience at home. You must visit and hike in the jungle. It is amazing and nothing like we see anywhere here. It is wet and amazingly clean! It does not smell musty. I didn't see any snakes, but there were scores of big fruit bats flying around and hanging from the tall trees. I didn't see any monkeys like they have in the Philippine jungle. Walking in the jungle is a memorable experience. You will be walking along a hillside as you are on the side of the Rainmaker. Your guide will be barefoot and he'll climb like a gazell.
