Nice bit of video editing to show the bikers as innocent. Another camera angle/clip shows the biker ahead stopping the cars for over 3 mins & bikers going through on red lights, which means, these car drivers were trying to exit their junction on a green. Also, you all knew what you were doing there but there is no signage to indicate that this junction would be blocked for ages for a memorial ride. As far as I am aware, only police are allowed to stop traffic or direct traffic through red lights - yet we see no police presence. Just because one biker has a hi-viz waistcoat that says "northwest riders marshal", doesn't mean he is entitled to block traffic. Locally, we have a charity cycle ride each year. Both the council and the police give permission for this based on the risk assessments. We are advised "marshals are assigned to the course in accordance with the risk assessment for that course ... By law marshals cannot stop a motorist to allow riders to negotiate a junction or other hazard. Remember that, when you are marshalling, always be courteous to other road users, even if they take exception or are abusive to you. Most drivers are courteous in return." So, even though the ride has the blessing of both council and police, the marshals are not allowed to stop traffic. I believe there are only a few 'people' who can stop traffic. These being; the police, DVSA/VOSA, officer from Highways England, Army (I'm thinking about the troubles in N. Ireland - although I suspect they had some kind of special permission) and, of course, the lollypop person.
@stevedragon6663 жыл бұрын
yeah common laws might not of been followed to the tee but if you saw the police car drive without any complaint by while the junction was being blocked and you understood the importance of the ride you would understand that a bit of leniency and understanding goes along was just as it did for for the hundreds of other drivers and pedestrians waving us on
@s1udgeguts3 жыл бұрын
@@stevedragon666 yeah, I understood, it was an unofficial memorial ride. I saw the cop car coming through the other way - while his light was on green, hence why he did nothing. Would've been a whole different story if he was sat looking at a red light whilst the bikes were blocking the junction.As it was, he was too far back to see any of that.

The reasoning behind it was good. But just cos theres 100 bikers doing a self planned ride doesn't mean what you're doing should be tolerated by other road users. Maybe you lot have nothing better to do than ride around all day but some people need to get on with their day mate. Im not defending the driver. Im a very patient guy but this would have made me push in tbh. The amount of bikes there was, was just taking the piss

While doing the memorial ride was awesome I have to wonder how long y'all had been blocking the road. Yes, the riders had a green light, at the moment, but I'd hazard to bet that the drivers had been blocked when they had a green light which is why he was trying to cut through. There was more than one car trying to get out which leads me to believe the the riders had blocked them when the drivers light was green especially considering how many bikes you can see further up the road. Was the driver a twat trying to run a red, yep, but so were y'all by blocking him when he most likely had a green.
@northernbackroadbiker5 жыл бұрын
totally agree and both parties seemed to prefer to argue when an ambulance could clearly be heard coming. I rode the Durham Egg Run this year and yes, roads were blocked for the bikers (approx. 15mins). Most drivers were out of their cars cheering, videoing and clapping. I think mainly as it was well publicised, occurs every year, good cause and it looked like police stopped the traffic and left marshal in place. Really good vibe and kids loved it. There was no animosity seen at all. This guy should wonder if he was justified if this driver had an emergency of his own.
@nessy7905 жыл бұрын
@@northernbackroadbiker Absolutely. Memorial rides and fun runs are great but if you want the roads blocked coordinate it with the police. If they won't or can't do it then just deal with the lights. Riders absolutely hate when drivers intentionally block them from splitting (riding the white line) so riders shouldn't intentionally block drivers either.
@stevedragon6665 жыл бұрын
Sure I know the junction was blocked for a while everyone else was cheering and clapping the driver could of stated if he had an emergency I would of safely stopped other bikes and let him in but he was just pissed at having to wait the police let us do it as in the link in the comments you can see a police car drive through this junction on the scooters camera I put myself at risk to stop him from driving into a whole group of riders If he had to wait 23 minutes that’s 1 min for lee rigby and 22 mins for the Manchester 22
@s1udgeguts3 жыл бұрын
@@stevedragon666 Another clip shows the police car driving through that junction in the opposite direction - he would've had a green light and simply assumed the bike at the front was turning right (as he was in that lane). Same clip also shows that the junction was blocked off for at least 3 minutes and that many, many bikes were illegally riding through red lights whilst there was no police monitoring the situation. Had there been a police outrider directing traffic, he would've explained why there was a hold up. As things stand, this is simply a load of bikers going through a red light and blocking traffic from lawfully entering the junction. As for "the police let us do it". You have to get permission to ride en mass but that permission would've come with certain clauses. I suspect that blocking roads and going through red lights weren't included. The police might have given permission for the ride but most likely weren't aware of the scale of the event or the chaos that would ensue as unqualified people try to block the roads. Great cause, piss poor organisation.
@s1udgeguts3 жыл бұрын
Another clip shows the bikers blocking that junction for 3.5 mins & loads of bikers going through red lights. No wonder drivers were pissed - they sit watching lights change & not being able to move because a biker illegally blocks the junction - and how long had they been waiting prior to this? Also note - there's no signage to indicate that this was a memorial ride, so how are the drivers supposed to know what's going on?

Another angle note the police car passing us by and the junction was totally clear until the cars chose to block it

He drove through because he had a green light. Cars only later block the junction because they are pissed off at having to wait for a load of bikers to illegally ride through red lights.
