Am planning a trip this September! Any recommendations for rivers or groups to try to link up with over there? Bringing my packraft and would like to try to find some whitewater to run.

Connect with the rafting companies! Arctic Rafting and Viking Rafting are a couple that we connected with. There's also a facebook group - "Whitewater paddlers in Iceland" you can check out.

As a member of the plastic boat battlion , this was a stunning ride, beautiful scenery and fantastic whitewater.. I'm in Dallas so we have 0 whitewater. Had to go find where this river was. BC is beautiful , always watching live streams up there. Anyway, good video, thanks for posting.

Beautiful video Heather! I've just started doing a little research on the Chilko-Chilcotin for a possible summer trip and this was one of the first videos I came across.

Wow! What an incredible video! Where did you put in and take out? I’m interested in doing a similar trip in a grand canyon dory (wooden boat) in early September. Are there a lot of rocks to dodge? Thanks for sharing your experience.

Wild mission! Why wear the dry suits and not just keep them in the pack? where they for safety, was there a chance you would have paddled out?
@heatherbuckingham13 жыл бұрын
The drysuits were not our "good" ones, and added mild protection from the bush on the hike down. The backpack was full of ropes and climbing gear, so no room to pack them. It made for an extremely hot journey though. We thought the river portion might require more technical work, perhaps with both of us in the water, but it wasn't really needed. It felt right to have them by the water's edge, but not sure I would have brought it at all if I had to do it again.

Good recovery! The verticality, blowdown/landslide: very much a jungle. Would you bring the machete next time? I always thought of brining one. I have told myself it would be too congested or too vertical to swing any time I really wanted to. Perhaps you need it to clear the way for boats on ropes?
@heatherbuckingham13 жыл бұрын
The machete had some use on the mission, but I think mostly it made us feel cooler... It helped when trying to unsnarl some of the jungle - it was pretty thick in places. We also came across some massive bear poop piles - some of the biggest I've seen, likely Grizzlies, so it was a small comfort having a sharp and pointy object with us...

Thank you, Heather, for sharing this journey with us who also grieve. I was only 22 when my brother died of leukemia. Unfathomable - impossible to accent. And yet preparatory for the loss in later years of my parents, two sisters, 'baby' brother and beloved husband. Each death was difficult - and different. Solace for me was found in Nature, in the solitude, in the prayers and love. Each of my parents, siblings and now my husband are "with me" - not in ways I would like yet very present in different way and often at the most unexpected times. Cameron will continue to "be with" you ... listen for his voice in the stillness; in the woods; in the loss. How he loved you and your/his parents. He still does. And always will. With your permission, I would like to share your video with "Soulistry-Artistry of the Soul" followers (www.soulistry.com/blog) at some time, for your video (while personal) is also universal in its message, is hope-filled and will encourage others to know that grief is part of life and that the grief journey takes many paths: there is no single 'right' way to grieve; there is no 'timeline' for grief. May you and your parents be blessed and know that Cameron is at peace and will always be with you.

Thank you June. I would be happy for you to share this video. Your touching words brought tears to my eyes. I am so sorry for your losses. Yesterday was a challenging day, but I felt like Cameron was with us.
