The clouds really helped in portraying what it looks like to the naked eye. I have seen a total solar eclipse both in clear skies (2017) and in clouded skies (this time around in 2024), so that's my experience.

I flew Olympic only once from Larnaca, Cyprus to Athens back in 1995. It was ok because it was a: "short hop." Service was fine, flight was uneventful, and my luggage got to Athens WITH me, which is something I'd heard that was an issue.

That is what a defensive fighter is all about!! The F-14 is the absolute best carrier-based fighters of all-time!!!! One of my ALL-TIME favorite designs ever done!!!!

E-28 arresting gear uses a four cylinder engine on each side of the runway for retraction into battery. The engagement spins an impeller inside a tank of anti-freeze to absorb the kinetic energy of the aircraft. The cross runway pendant is held off the deck by large rubber donuts. The pendant is connected to heavy nylon tapes which draw out from the impeller. NAS Oceana has eight sets of E-28 gear. It is usually only used to prevent a runway overrun. When it is engaged or knocked out of battery, the field support crew is called to go out onto the field to fire up the engines and return it to battery.

The whistle of an F14 on final is a sound I'll never forget. So happy I had the chance to spend a career corralling these wonderful beasts.

I think the US should never retire the F14, it could update or modernize it. F14 is well respected around the world, because of the excellent films (I'm not American).

Set up for long range flight, 300 gal drop tanks on both wings and the center-line. Config we used to use for TRANPAC'ing A-4M's from El Toro to Iwakuni via island hopping (Hawai'i/Wake/Guam) and inflight refueling.
