Just came across your channel and what raised my interest was the videos on your Jaguar XF petrol which I think you no longer own?. I have a the same petrol engined XF with the same colour combination although mine is a 2010 and just the Luxury spec so less goodies than yours. The 3.0 V6 petrol XF was fairly rare and I think Jaguar deleted the engine late 2010, the engine had been used previously in the S Type, X Type and the previous model XJ. I have had mine eight years, it took me ages to find the right one and had to go to Newcastle to buy it - about 220 miles from my home! I entirely agree with all your comments about the car. I love the interior - much nicer then the Mk2 XF & XE's IMO. Its very comfortable and refined, and a great long distance cruiser. Mine has been pretty reliable too - its had a new fuel pump and I have recently replaced the boot wiring harness which is a common fault. The rest has just been routine maintainance - did the spark plugs 18 months ago which was a PITA as the inlet manifold has to come off - took me hours but got there in the end! Agree with you about fuel consumption - it has a bit of a drink problem and is at its best on long motorway drives! Don't get me started on the VED!! I have just taxed mine which cost £675 this year😡 I think this "highway robbery" started in 2006 at a time when the Government was pushing people to buy diesels - how times change eh? Even though diesels have now been discredited in many ways the Govt are never going to review the rates for petrol engines like the XF as they don't want to lose the revenue! I tend to console myself by saying that my sort of driving - lots of short distances wouldn't suit a diesel. As you point out the diesel engine XF's even the later 3.0V6's suffer from a number of serious issues such as blocked dpf's, oil dillution and egr valve problems, so whilst I am paying extortinate road tax I have avoided the big repair bills that can occur in fixing the diesel engines. I do toy with replacing my XF with something more resonable to tax probably a later petrol engine Jag, but I still very much like my XF even after eight years, so the positives continue to outweigh the negatives for me so far! I think partly due to the VED my XF isn't worth that much now and I would be reluctant to let it go for peanuts! So my ownership of an XF remains under review but as yet no clear decission about which way to go with it. I enjoyed your videos of your Jaguar XF there is very little written about the engine version - loads on diesels though. Whilst I think you owned yours for a much shorter time your ownership experience and impressions seems to have been similar to mine which is great to see. Thanks👍

Hi Steve i hope you are well , apologies for taking so long to reply work and life getting in the way as normal haha , Thank you for your kind words on the video . I am so glad some one else has had the same experience as me getting the XF was a kind of default i had just given back my PCP lease car during covid when cars were scarce so came out very well from that and i needed another car . My brother had the XF but stopped using it as he went from working 24 miles away round trip to over 60 so the fuel consumption was hurting him . its still a car a lot of me regrets selling as it was truly amazing i loved the ride the looks the noise it made i just could not get past that tax and even though since i have changed jobs so could afford it its more the principal . I dont get political on the channel but totally agree with your comments there and the same is happening again on EV but dont get me started on that haha . for my daily driver i have gone back to a new PCP car just because its under warranty and it goes back for servicing in a package etc trouble is i always have mixed feelings not just the cost of the lease but the waste as its far to complex to keep after the PCP ends and i tend to find cars of say the 6 to 10 years can bankrupt you in cost because of the complexity . i hope you keep enjoying the channel and hope to have some new content soon

@@na-turbo Thank you for your reply and for reading through my comments - I realise it was a bit of a lengthy tome! It was really good to find someone else that had owned a petrol XF of the same era as mine and I could relate to a lot of your ownership experiences. I am a member of a Jaguar internet forum with an active XF section but virtually all other members have diesel XF's so it of limited benefit to me with my petrol V6! Even after 8 years I still enjoy the qualities of the XF the ride, refinement, performance etc and when its washed and polished I think it still looks pretty good and is ageing quite well. I agree with you about potential repair costs on older prestige cars - they may depreciate heavily but maintainance and repairs will cost as much as when they were new. I've been really lucky on that front so far mainly routine just servicing and maintainance - tyres. brakes etc hope I'm not tempting fate saying this!! I can live the low fuel economy, I'm retired so don't do that many miles and the XF is at its best on a longer run. I won't go on about the car tax again but as you say it is an absurd waste of money! It is the main thing that presents a dilemma to me about keeping the XF or not. I think the high VED could affect the value of the car and make it more difficult to sell. I usualy sell my cars privately and have always been successful in the past. I wonder if the road tax costs would put buyers off particularly on a XF like mine which is only worth a few thou and the annual road tax represents a higher proportion of the cars value than a more expensive car. Out of interest did you have much trouble selling your XF and did the high road tax prove to be much of an obstacle ? Be interesting to know if I decide to test the market. Will look out for new content on your channel - as a confirmed petrol head I enjoy YT car channels 👍

@@steveegginton535 No problem at all thank you for the comments its nice to see some one with as much love for the XF as i had , i was even very impressed with the parts prices one of the only faults i had was the water pump started leaking , I phoned a Jaguar dealer getting ready to fall of the chair but it was something like 120 pound for a complete unit not half a unit like most third party ones and the dealer got it with in two days so i went for that and no problems after . When i made the decision to sell it was a hard one i hate selling cars hence why i collect a lot haha . I didn't have trouble selling it because of the high tax or because it was a petrol it was the usual time wasters iv had on any cars for sale . i even advertised it with Autotrader and had the same time wasters there too for example people calling about it but they only had £1500 pounds less than i was selling it for . In the end by luck a lovely couple came and bought it . it was for his wife who only worked 4 miles each way from home but wanted something nice to go to work in so the economy and tax were not an issue for them .
@steveegginton5357 ай бұрын
@@na-turbo Thanks for your reply much appreciated. I was interested and encouraged by your experience of selling your XF. Selling privately is usually a pain but its the way to get the best price for a car. I know I would get peanuts p/x'ing it or selling to an online car buying service despite all the hype. Frankly an XF like mine would be a lot of car for the money for someone, but not the right car if their top priority was running costs - they should buy a Yaris🙂 Being a petrol is not really a disadvantage these days and the engines are simpler then the diesels. So if I decide to sell will definitely try selling it myself - you only need one person as they say! Yes its always worth a call to the dealer for parts, sometimes you are pleasantly surprised! Think I missed a trick recently when I replaced part of the boot wiring harness. Common issue on Jags the internal wires get brittle and tend to break with all the use of the boot lid. I brought a genuine Jaguar part from an Ebay seller - the part was perfect and cured the problems I had been having with the locks but cost £100 which seemed a fair bit for some wires! Several people have since said that they are nearly half that price at the dealer so lesson learned there! Thanks again for the info and the XF videos.

I have just bought a 2003 MG ZT-T 180 in Typhoon for the same reason. It was exactly the colour, speciation & model I wanted & I knew if I didn’t buy one reasonably soon they would spiral into silly money. I allocated £1000 on top of my purchase budget to do work on it because the seller was quite honest about its battle scars & in my first week I’d spent £1150. Mine also needs the engine mount doing, I’ve had the same issue on one of my Rover 75’s. Upon collection I drove it two miles to the tyre garage to have a full new set of tyres fitted & it pissed several litres of it’s freshly filled full tank of V-Power petrol on the floor when they jacked it up. Problem was an aftermarket fuel pump with an incorrectly fitted seal so it’s had an OEM pump fitted. I do believe the seller was unaware of the issue since he ran it on about 1/3 of tank on short local runs in Birmingham. So on the long drive home I got 20mpg which is bad even for a 180 but since it was done that has jumped to 26mpg about what I expect. Likewise my car is expected to earn it’s keep but it gets to share the burden with a 75 Tourer & saloon so it’s not a full daily. I’d rather see a car daily used but well maintained than a garage queen. I’m not a mechanic but I’ve already fixed some minor issues myself like the boot gas struts & I tidied up some cosmetic issues on my high mileage example. It’s had an airbag light fixed, the already mentioned fuel pump & a full set of premium tyres plus a good second hand one on the spare. Overall I want to ‘save it{ since high mileage ones end up scrapped & all my cars have high mileage but are well maintained. Yes the belts have been done with evidence in 2020 & only 4000 miles since. I also picked up two sets of VIS motors from DMGRS on offer at £65 a set Christmas 2023 since both my 75’s are V6 as well. I’d love to see an update on this car here on KZbin & if you attend POL or the Monogram show on July 21st it would be great to get the Typhoon’s all together for a photo opportunity. Keep on labouring these cars need true enthusiasts to stay on the road. Oddly mine is ULEZ compliant as is one of my 75’s, it’s a completely random lottery of what figure was entered on the logbook at registration. I’ve uploaded a very brief walk around of my ZT-T on my channel. I’ll do a better video once the remaining work is complete (engine mounts cruise control).
