4:22 Is it still better to hold your body out of the water if the air/wind is colder than the water? Also, does the 10 minute window increase if you're able to swim to shore and then start hiking to warm up your body? I've often thought about this second question. Thank you!

Get one that autoinflates. That salt pill dies in an instant and the plunger hits the Co bottle and your in business whether you are conscious or not.

The cover can be any colour, the bladder (the inflatable part) is invariably bright yellow.

This is great if you’re not in cold water and need to climb back into/or onto your boat or life raft or perhaps swim after gear that’s floating away or any number of other things. Just consider the usage before you bet your life on this method of safety. Just saying not a cureall for those who find themselves in the water needing to get back out again.

You can only be American… they just don’t see the benefits. If you have an automatic inflatable lifejacket (red toggle not green) and you go overboard knocked unconscious it will roll you upright and keep your airway clear. Quite possibly preferable to death in my opinion. And plese don’t be one of those old blokes who say “I don’t need one, I’m a strong swimmer”. They were - forty years ago!

I dont like the way you keep having to blow it up with that black tube to stay afloat, but on a more serious note, many people fall in the water because they are not aware and unconscious, good luck to them!

most inflatable vests like these automatically inflate when they detect water, though there's a very slim change of it not working which is why you're not encouraged to use inflatable vests unless you can swim/float
