There's poetry in the idea that a man from America's Wild West writes a song about our Wild West. I like that.

It will be very unpopular comment, but bear with me, it comes from someone who genuinely loves this song: Steve's effort is almost nothing. The whole composition is driven by whistle, fiddle and accordion. Steve is a fifth wheel here.

The American writer Ambrose Bierce, in his Devil's Dictionary (a must read for EVERYONE !!! Really !!), states that for every great sauce a sin is forgiven. Maybe this also holds true for every great song.

Steve Earl has mixed the Irish type reel with his southern Cajan twist and they merged together so smoothly . I love his style. Steve's voice is so raw and real. I can feel him. He is a great song writer. Love and peace

Well, I took a stroll on the old long walk Of a day -i-ay-i-ay I met a little girl and we stopped to talk Of a fine soft day -i-ay-i-ay And I ask you, friend, tell me what would you do 'Cause her hair was black and her eyes were blue And I knew right then I'd be takin' a whirl 'Round the Salthill prom with a Galway girl We were halfway there when the rain came down Of a day -i-ay-i-ay And she asked me up to her flat downtown Of a fine soft day -i-ay-i-ay And I ask you, friend, tell me what would you do 'Cause her hair was black and her eyes were blue So I took her hand and I gave her a twirl And I lost my heart to a Galway girl Now, when I woke up I was all alone I had a broken heart and a ticket home And I ask you now, tell me what would you do If her hair was black and her eyes were blue I've traveled around I've been all over this world Boys I ain't never seen nothin' like a Galway girl

Boy does he sing through his nose. I like this song, but when it sung by someone else, like the High Kings. Probably sound better if he didn't sing it a gay sounding voice.
