It's zeroed at 100yd with 110gr Barnes tsx bullets, l shoot 4 different brands of 110gr bullets in this rifle and they all group just a little bit differently.

I thought the Barnes 110 was better than the Vmax 110 because the petals on the Barnes don't fragment. You ruin more meat if the Vmax explodes like its designed to, being a varmint bullet and all that. However, for effective stopping power I can't argue it.
@boltactionballistics
@boltactionballistics 19 күн бұрын
The VMAX being a lite thin jacket bullets preform good in at a slower velocity like the 300blk, id say it held up pretty good, now i would not want to use these on deer with the 308 the bullet would just totally blow up into tiny pieces, and yes Barnes are my favorite bullets they preform very good.

Well presented and convincing. A minor detail left out is that a muzzle brake, as on the 30-06, actually *increases* the velocity a few FPS, for anyone that might be wondering.

From all the research i have found a muzzle brake does not increase or decrease velocity it only reduces recoil.

i just took a long range course with this same rifle. i don't hunt, I never really shot any bolt actions. in 8 hours of instruction, i went from zeroing my rifle to several hits at 1000 yards. my instructor was very impressed with my rifle considering it didn't have any compensators or brakes. and his rifle was an accuracy international 300 prc. (like $18K). he said that ruger american was a very capable rifle at least out to 1000 yards. I ran out of elevation adjustment after that. But he was impressed with its performance and how it tracked with the ballistic calculator. after 600 yards the wind was an issue, but my first rounds were maybe 1/2 a target width off in the wind direction. using the ACSS reticle in my scope with hold offs I was able to get hits. Now I just have to get out there and practice more.

As soon as you made the first adjustment to bring it down, I noticed you were moving the knob in the wrong direction. LOL, you figured it out on the second try. Just remember counter clockwise - UP; counter clockwise - RIGHT. All you have to do is remember those two and you will never have to look at the top of the adjustment knob again. They are all the same.

I always watch the trigger pull on shooting videos because it's the hardest of the nine fundamentals of marksmanship. Seems like nobody has given the rifle enough time to completely cool off between shots for accuracy testing. I always let them barrels cool off for fifteen minutes between shots because it is the first shot that counts. Your Trigger pull needs to be smoothed out and the best way to get it right is to dry fire with a snap cap. I have been professionally trained by the usmc scout sniper platoon and they know what's what. Buy yourself a red plastic snap cap and take your time making sure of a smooth pull on the trigger and always have ahold of your rifle with both hands just like when you are hunting. Seems like everybody gets that part wrong. It will stabilize the rifle like you've never seen before. Watch Mason Outdoors and you will see how much it takes the muzzle jump out of the equation with him shooting his 300 winchester magnum. He's the only person who I have seen that shows how to properly hold on to his rifles when testing different bullets.

A hunter is also going to need to know how ammo groups 3 shot right in a row, if you happen to hit a twig on the first shot and miss are you going to wait 15min to make a follow up shot,, in my prospective as a deer hunter i like to see how ammo groups at least 3 shots in a row,, and second of all you normally don't take your sand bags and shooting tables out hunting with you,, point here is just to see how good or bad the ammo is on a few shots in a row.

1-10 barrel twist is not gonna stabilize a 110 grain bullet! You need some 80grn or lower. But you whipped out the heaviest projectile made for the gun. Never will it stabilize that out of the Rossi 1-10 barrel.
@boltactionballistics
@boltactionballistics Ай бұрын
It will stabilize 100gr but don't group good with it,, 106gr starts to wobble a little, not a perfect round hole on target and 110gr is completely sideways hit,, from what I hear from other people this rifle likes 80gr bullets shoots and groups nice.. I'll have to give that a try sometime..

Well the scope isn't anything special on this rifle im not even sure what brand it is maybe Simmons or something cheap like that, and ppu ammo I've never seen perfect or good groups with that ammo, this American whitetail ammo I've shot maybe a 2 boxes of it with groups looking like it did,,,, and the the twist rate being 1-10 it doesn't stabilize a 106gr bullet.. I haven't really tested other brands of ammo in groups but from what I hear 80gr bullets group better with this twist rate.
