Hey @zanalee2266, thanks for the question! You should try to head over to SW5e.com which has ALL the content for the system so you can find details like this. On the Berserker class page you can find the advancement table for all the levels as well as a list of all the instincts. I've put a link to the page in the description of the video so you can jump right over! To answer your question directly, you first get instincts at Level 2 and you'll get 2 of them at that level. You won't get a third until Level 7.

What is the Berserker Approach where to find Approach
@JasonStCyr
@JasonStCyr 3 күн бұрын
@@zanelee2266 Berserker Approach is a specialization in your class that you get at 3rd level. If you are familiar with D&D, it's like a subclass. In SW5e, these are generically called "Archetypes". If you go to the class page on SW5e.com for the Berserker (linked in the KZbin description) there is a button at the bottom of the page that takes you to the approaches, which is really just a link to the Archetypes page, pre-filtered by the Berserker class. On the Archetypes search, you can find all the specializations for all the classes. If you filter by the Berserker class (like the link on the class page does for you) you see all the options for the Berserker Approaches. When you click on each one, you can see what benefits you can get from that Approach!

@@zanelee2266 Your DM/GM might have specific rules for your table, but by the book anybody can technically sit in the seat and take Helm actions. If your character gets ranks in the Pilot deployment (essentially you've done piloting enough to 'level up' in piloting) then your character will now be able to do tactics and do special actions with the Power Dice. Without any ranks in the piloting deployment, you cannot use any Power Dice and are restricted to the default actions for Helm actions. I'll try to get a video up on this one!

Hello i have a question, so my party made it so that every ranged weapon can use in 1 action a specific amount of up to the reload X (Example the weapon has Reload 6 and they use 4 shots in 1 action), it felt uncanny and not really right so im asking if that is actually true or not?

"Mag dumping" in short
@JasonStCyr
@JasonStCyr 2 ай бұрын
@@Rievet7134 I have always interpreted the rules that in normal situations, a single ranged attack consumes a single 'ammo' from your ranged weapon. The power cell is pretty clear that it says it "fuels a number of attacks equal to the weapon's reload number". So if you have a Blaster pistol with "reload 16" that means it would (usually) take 16 attacks to deplete the power cell. It is not that on each turn there are 16 shots fired, each one an attack dealing damage. You could fire everything in the cell if you had the ability to make 16 attacks. Not all ranged weapons follow this general rule. Some weapons also have a 'Burst' property. This means that the weapon will consume multiple ammunition at once, essentially doing an Area of Effect attack. Some weapons also have the 'Rapid' property, which allows you to to unload a number of ammo uses up to the "Rapid" number to do double the damage (on a failed save). Let's take a look at the 'Carbine rifle': Rapid 3, Reload 12. I interpret the rules here to mean that with a single attack you could use up 3 of your ammo instead of one (taking it from 12 to 9). If the targets failed the save, you could then do double-damage from that single powered-up attack. But it's still only a single ranged attack usage, it just uses up more ammo and will force you to reload more often. Or, if you used a Heavy bowcaster, this has Burst 2, Reload 4. When you fire this bowcaster it will use up 2 charges from your power cell, and needs to be reloaded after 4 charges. That means you can do 2 burst attacks (an AoE 10-foot cube) and then you have to reload. Each burst is still just one attack. There are also multiple ways to get multiple ranged attacks in a single turn. You could have extra attacks as a Fighter, or opportunity attacks triggered by other creatures, or a character with a 'commanding' bonus action could instruct you to make an attack. There's also the "Return Fire" maneuver that could allow you to make an attack as a reaction, and some specialist feats and builds that can give you other ways to attack. That, at least, is how I've always interpreted the rules. Of course, any given table might have house rules that alters this and goes in a different way. I think it's important to understand that Reload isn't "number of attacks" but "number of shots" and a single attack could potentially use up multiple 'shots'.

I'm currently playing a Fighter I built to play like a special forces commando. My turn looks like a normal fighter turn with a blaster but I save my bonus action for Sentinel Mastery's defensive stance to get extra reactions specifically for opportunity attacks equal to my proficiency bonus (plus an extra from Guerilla Mastery). Combined with Snapshot Mastery, Counterstrike Mastery, Guerilla Mastery and Sentinel Style I can make an opportunity attack whenever someone moves within 30 feet or attacks me. I have advantage on the damage rolls of my opportunity attacks, they put slow 4 on anything that I hit and I get to move half my movement speed with every AoO. If I opportunity attack as a reaction to being attacked then the enemy attack that triggered it is made at disadvantage. If anything manages to get within 5 feet of me I can spend my normal reaction to disengage and move half my movement speed. Name of the game is fire and maneuver, using Maneuvers and superiority dice to add some spice to my attacks when needed and to keep everything pinned down. I've got multiple power belts for ammo on a heavy blaster rifle so I have 48 shots in between reloads, less if I start using Rapid. My shooting every time the enemy moves keeps them bottled up, allowing myself and my team to pound them with AoE powers and grenades. My backstory is that my character was a teacher (I wanted three crafting kits so I took crafter with teacher for armstech, armormech and demo kit) until the Empire carpet bombed his city during the Mid Rim Retreat and his class room was leveled. Signed up with the Rebellion and has been fighting ever since, first with Twilight Company until he was sent to selection for Rebel Special Forces, after which he was put in the 32nd Commando Unit, which I've been treating as a combination of Green Berets and Delta. Go behind enemy lines, train locals to fight and then fight alongside them, direct action missions, hostage rescue, sabatoge, you get the idea. It's been a lot of fun and I've been employing tactics I learned from my time in the Marine Corps so it's extremely satisfying to see how applicable they are to a table top game.

Wow, that sounds like a fun build! I can visualize it now, this commando just laying down constant suppressing fire, keeping the enemy pinned everytime they pop their head out from cover. Good plan with the extra rounds, with all those reactions I expected you to run out of ammo a lot! I didn't realize there was a way to boost the number of reactions you could do per turn in that way, I need to look at that to see how that works!

@@JasonStCyr You're looking for Sentinel Mastery and Counterstrike Mastery for extra attacks of opportunity. Sentinel Mastery gives you extra attack of opportunity reactions equal to your proficiency bonus if you use your bonus action to go into a defensive stance. Counterstrike Mastery gives you an extra one specifically for an opportunity attack, but that one is made without your proficiency bonus so my advice is to save it for last or use it against something you know has low AC. I'd also recommend getting a power belt and a blaster with at least 12 reload, you're going to be burning through a lot of ammo an you don't want to run out when it's not your turn! I'm using a heavy blaster since I was a '31 in the corps and machine guns speak to me.

I haven't tried it myself, but the class does have some good pieces that would fit with this. I suppose you could even take the "Ideal of the fighter" Sentinel ideal to choose the Duelist fighting style, adding to your combat bonuses. @@richardb2942 If you are going into lightsaber battles with a Dexterity-based character, make sure to check which weapons you pick. Many of the lightsabers do not have the Versatile property, so they don't let you switch to Dex. Being a Yoda student, you may want to look at Path of Tenacity. The Kinetic Ward feat feels very 'Yoda's Students' with all the lightsaber blocking as reactions. Min-maxing is not really my thing, but given that Dexterity and Intelligence are important for the class you might want to use the Species search on SW5e site and filter by those two attributes. There are several that offer +2 DEX and +1 INT, including the Duros and Bith. Duros have darkvision so would be handy in a 'sneak in at night' scenario. Bith have tech proficiency, good for your hacker type, maybe? The Mirialan have a bonus 'surprise attack' that does 2d6 damage which would pair well with some builds. From a roleplay perspective, I would love to try this class from a droid perspective. I think it would be a lot of fun to do the R2 type of infiltrator role where nobody notices you because "you're just an astromech droid" 🤣 I guess it depends on what type of operative you are playing? Some clarifications about Badass Moves, some of which are from Ian Moss (Lead designer for B&B) : - After everyone has finished describing their actions, the BM sets the DC and EVERYONE who is taking part in the Badass Move rolls the Badass Die and adds their Badass Rank, and then those results are totaled together against the DC. - Only the player who initiated the Badass Move gets their Ability Score to their actions, not the assisting players. - You use your Ability Scores until the end of the after-enemies step, meaning you'll use your SPD Score instead of SPD Mod to penalize enemy accuracy. - Mayhem is only generated if the group performing the Badass Move fails. If they succeed, no mayhem is generated and everything just happens. - Yeah. It just happens. Actions succeed, players don't need to perform checks, and the only things players need to roll for are Accuracy Rolls for attacks (since it's scaling accuracy, not vs-AC) and Damage (since that [usually] doesn't use d20's). - However, if you DO need to roll a d20, you *Are* allowed to use your Badass Die result in place of a D20 roll. If you nailed a 17 on your Badass Roll, every d20 you used *Can* be a 17. (Though if you rolled low you're still allowed to roll the d20 instead.)

You can absolutely run an Engineer as a straight caster but the specializations really let you get creative. I actually just started a campaign and my group needed a frontline fighter. Since I'd be the only melee fighter I decided to go as tanky as possible. So I'm playing as an Armormech Engineer with a quick splash into fighter and play it as a front line melee fighter. At level 5 I've got 23 AC, 45 movement speed (my species + armor mod that increases my move speed by 10), my species gives me Aggressive which lets me move my full movement speed as a bonus action as long as I move towards an enemy so combine that with moving and a dash action I can move 135 feet to close with an enemy and keep them out of my team's faces. My suit gives darkvision 60, permanent spider climb and full swim speed. I went with 20 str, 15 int and then just focused on tech powers that don't have a saving throw but are extremely useful. Stuff like energy shield, sonic strike, Kolto dispenser, smuggle (to at least make up for my clanky armor) resistance, you get the idea. Crafting my own armor and getting to install custom Armormech mods for free saved me a ton of money and let me kit out with every gadget I could think of, every week I pull out something new, my table calls my character a swiss army knife. My fighting strategy is the trip/sentinel/onslaught combo. I took shield style on my first level of fighter to let me use whatever melee weapon I wanted with a heavy shield and get a trip as a bonus action. Onslaught Mastery gives me a attack of opportunity when I knock something prone and Sentinel Style (which I get in 2 levels) will apply slow 4 on an attack of opportunity so unless what we're fighting can get rid of slow through a power they're not getting back up. And I still have my regular attack after the trip/opportunity combo. Throw a Sonic strike in there and everything around me will also take damage. I don't do the most damage by a long shot but the utility is unmatched.

@@JasonStCyr It's been pretty fun, but there are definitely gaps that I need to close. My dex saves are terrible and Engineer doesn't give me a big enough health pool to take hits so I may go for shield mastery instead of sentinel to help with my dexterity saves.

The fighter gets maneuvers and superiority dice as a standard part of the core class now too (where as in normal 5e that’s only in one subclass, even though originally during the 5e play test it had them as part of the core class too) Fighters also get further customization in the form of their Strategies

Good point on all the customization options!

Could you do a review on the artillery companion archetype?

That's a great idea! I have one last class to look at and then I will check out that Archetype. Scout, right? I hadn't looked at that one before!

@@polarice56 There is never a wrong choice! It all comes down to picking the thing that best matches to the character you want to play. If you have the idea of having an R2-like companion, but with lots of firepower and a sword, that archetype does give you that option. I had a brief read and it looks like fun, and neat that you can use it to give you cover!

Hey Jason, these are great little bite-sized explanations of theses classes! There's a strange dearth of short-form videos about SW5e and you are filling a necessary niche - when this series of videos is done, I'm gonna send them to my players who have trouble with reading comprehension so they don't have to watch a 25-minute explanation of everything. Thanks!!!

Thank you! Hard to cover everything in small bursts like this, but at least for me this is about how much I want to know before I pick a class. There is a lot of depth in these classes though!

@@JasonStCyr There really is, yeah. SW5e gives so much leeway in terms of customization that it's impossible to cover EVERYTHING each class has to offer, but I think giving the general vibe & intended role in a party is a good compromise for these videos. If you're down to tackle it at some point, I think a lot of people (myself included lol) would really benefit from a short explanation of how starship combat works. It's a little confusing to those jumping straight from D&D 5e (official Spelljammer rules are effectively "don't do it lmao") and a quick run-down would be superbly helpful.

@@XYAgain420 Definitely! I had the same experience of being overwhelmed when I first started going through the ships rules and I need to break it down for myself too... That would be a great idea for a new series!

Hey @XYAgain420, I managed to find a really good tutorials playlist on Starship combat. I've linked to it in my new video where I did a brief overview of some of the combat stuff. As I dig in more, there is so much more to uncover! I'll link to the video in a separate reply, sometimes YT strips them out, if it does, you can find it on my SW5e playlist.
