Why not approach the publisher of "Garden for the Rusty Patched BumbleBeedf"?

last year I had 2 pairs of southern Carolinia chickadees in my southwestern ontario garden during the winter. I only had about 20% native plants at that time....I am hoping that with my planting of more plants this summer, I will eventually get more and be able to help them during the winter months when they come calling.

I love that the birds abound in your garden! Your photos alone are a great argument for native plant gardening!

This is an open-grown tree, so is not from this 'primordial forest', enjoying the video though!
Very interesting and informative. Thank you for posting this presentation.

Thank you for posting this on You Tube. I really enjoyed seeing all the wonderful photos and examples. In our area one of the newest trends is for Marajuana to be grown in greenhouses with pink lights. How harmful are the pink lights glowing overhead to our insects and birds?

That is a good question. I'm not sure about birds, but I remember Doug saying that it’s the bright white lights that are an issue for the insects, but his alternative was to put in yellow lights. So, it’s the other wave lengths in the white light that cause the problem. This could be the blue or the red, however I think blue is the more likely to be the issue, since it is an issue for humans as well. I google-ed it to back this up and they said actually red is the least attractive to insects. So other than being ugly in the sky, luckily those greenhouses aren't killing more of our insects, they’re likely doing less harm than the other greenhouses!

@@lowerthamesvalleyconservat604 Although the pink lights are less harmful to insects, I still wish they would turn them off at night so I could see the stars instead of a pink glow in the sky. :)
