I'm singing this in a choir concert in a couple days. I'm nervous but I hope we are able to truly show the emotions and vulnerability like these people can. This song is absolutely amazing and literally gives me chills every time I hear it/sing it.

I sang this piece in my high school choir at Nevada Union high school in Grass Valley, CA. Our choral director was one of the absolute best - the late Don Bagget.

Sondheim's requiem to accepting diversity and ending ethnocentric conflict as a solution. Perfectly performed. Bravo.

Remind me, please, of the connection of this song to the Church of the Brethern. I have a friend who grew up in that faith tradition, and I wanted to have the story straight in order to share the song with her. Thank you!

I would harbor a lot of different people but this created a problem for me when the person I was helping used me. Now he wants money for drugs and rides so he can buy drugs. I tell him no and he still keeps asking. How can I know when "harboring" [helping] someone will become a problem? He refuses to stay at the Rescue Mission and is currently sleeping outdoors, homeless. Harboring someone is a great idea but what if they don't respect you.

Great song, great performance, but I don't see the point of making walk the singers like if they were in some sort of esoteric or initiatic ceremony… It's a little ridiculous… Jesus isn't even there.

You have to be in the church to realize the acoustic effect it creates when singers walk up to the front from the side.
