I went to high school with Ben Schneider and Mark Barry (and Tom I guess, but I didn’t know of him at the time). Okemos High School, in Michigan. They were a year older than me. I knew of Ben because his dad, John, was a writer for the Lansing State Journal, a local newspaper. I knew of Mark because his dad, Jim, was my band teacher in 7th grade and also the high school band teacher. I had some friends in the drum corps who played with Mark, so he and I had many friends in common, although I don’t remember having any real interaction with him. I remember my friends really looking up to Mark since he was obviously a master drummer, even back then. Ben, I would just see him in the school halls here and there. Always seemed quiet and reserved. Had no idea they had a band together or even that they were friends. 13 years after I graduated, a mutual friend from our school who played drums with Mark shared their music on Facebook. I listened and loved it, been hooked ever since. Kind of cool that some guys from a small town in Michigan made it big. Really happy for them.

I saw them for my third time at Red Rocks this past summer on their second night there. They played this one "for all of you out there who have been here since the beginning", and they extended the end of this song and completely rocked out on the melody for like a solid 5 minutes. It was amazing and I still think about just how happy Ben and the rest of the band looked jamming out and just having fun with their freeform, extended version of this song every time I hear it again. Thanks for the upload, Mr. Casey!

Man how true is this. So true for me. I am still looking today. Why did my wife and 2 babies burn to death, why is my current wife fighting cancer for 22 years now. Why did my Mom and Dad die of cancer within 2 years of each other. PTSD is an evil bitch, looking back, looking ahead and today it is all the same . There is only what I fight today they are all one. Looking back, the future and today.
