I am guessing the SG had a total neck replacement and not a Gibson neck, just made to look like one

Why wasn’t anyone at Gibson able to refret and re-nut a guitar?

A refret and a new nut I can understand. I can even see converting it back to right handed playing IF (and only if) it has a new owner and that new owner is a righty. But for goodness sake why would you ream it for Grovers?? I get that Grover’s are a better tuner but wow that was just a horrible idea. For all the talk about preserving this guitar’s legacy they sure don’t seem to care much about making major and permanent modifications.
@TheLexluthier6 сағат бұрын
I find it funny that they had to preserve the original nut, yet they reamed out the headstock and slapped a set of Grover tuners on it.

Great story! My dad was good friends with Joe, and grew up with Phil In Killester and Clontarf in Dublin. I still have some records Phil gave him and a few photos from The Black Eagles days. No 59 burst, though😢

Amazing story. Love that the first thing you guys did was refret it and change the nut to make it playable again. Just a side note, I just realize that Mat in this video is the same Mat that was doing an AMA in a Les Paul forum for years over pages and pages of questions. Thank you Mat!! You have always been very patient and answered a number of my questions.
