Hi great vid... I'm doing mine tomorrow... 2006 Solara- a question and I have seen the same in other vids- WHY do you NOT losten/remove the top 3 nuts off the strut assemble BEFOR jacking it up? Thank you in advance! why did you have you have to start from the bottom?
@diezelvehiclez4291
@diezelvehiclez4291 Жыл бұрын
Hello thank you for checking the video glad it was helpful. The reason why I didn’t remove the bolts before I jack the car. If you do so the spindle will start moving down as soon as the jack the car and you’ll put more tension on the tire rods and sway bar link it’s better to remove those 3 bolts as last step this way you avoid having a lot of weight hanging in tie rod and sway link

@@diezelvehiclez4291 copy that ! sadly i replaced them not many years ago with Monroe Matics as they offered a $ 100 rebate and had a lifetime guarantee... Monroe did NOT send me my rebate (ps there is or was a class action lawsuit about this) and their lifetime guarantee... well didnt come close to lasting a lifetime, hence I bought another brand. Thank you SO MUCH for your reply!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So what do we do when the stabilizer is acting too tall for the strut?
@diezelvehiclez4291
@diezelvehiclez4291 Жыл бұрын
If you end up jacking the car under the control arm you may have to lower the jack a bit to match the higher of the stabilizer and change your lifting point for the vehicle

@@richcityrepresentative8805 you must torque all the bolts and nuts for this strut the top 3 nuts also the bottom two bolt holding the knuckle to the strut and make sure you attach the sway bar link and tight the nut for it as well

I sure will use this as a tip when I change all struts on my 01 solara that I just bought. Any recomedations? Which strut sets are good. I have in mind and ive heard that Monroe struts are really good and which dont cost much for all 4. For 390.

I read that you have to be careful not to let the hub assy pull out too far when disassembled. Otherwise big trouble. They mentioned a safety bungee or wire to prevent such.

You really did not need the heavy grit sandpaper, I just did a set of lights with one small piece of 2500 to remove the orange looking oxidation and polished with Turtle Wax Headlight Cleaner & Sealer (T-43). Lightly wet sanded by hand and used a drill adapter to polish to a bright luster, easy peasy.

My Solara sits one inch higher in the front compared to the back. In other words the rear sags about 1 inch. The front struts are 1 year old KYB's. The rears are 15 year old KYB's. Do you think it's the struts or the springs or both? It has the original 17 year old springs.
@diezelvehiclez4291
@diezelvehiclez4291 5 жыл бұрын
sdnative if you replace the front spring and struts one year ago that will make your front higher than back because your new springs and struts are not worn out like back it’s normal for struts and spring to sag little bit down after 15 years as long as everything is working good don’t bother unless you don’t like the look so just replace them with something cheap from eBay really and yeah replace shocks and springs
@sdnative2387

@@diezelvehiclez4291 Thanks for your reply. Just the front struts were replaced,not the springs. But yeah since Toyota springs are $100 each, I'll probably just do the rear struts and mounts.

Mine now has 225k. The reverse gear wore out at 187k so I had the tranny rebuilt 4 years ago since the rest of the car is in good shape. I just wanted to get another 100k or more out of the vehicle. So far so good, but if I had to do it over, I'd get a Toyota remanufactured one for the same price.
