And, overcome by his emotion, he burst into discordant song. 'Fo-or he's a jolly good fellow', bellowed Steve. 'For he's a jolly good fellow. For he's-' Wodehouse, P. G. The Coming of Bill. 14 The Sixty-first Street Cyclone

Do you know if the letters of the 25,000 people who contributed to the Heart Songs book explaining what the songs signified to them were ever reproduced anywhere?

And there's a lovely stillness, and you can hear everything growing. And thrushes and blackbirds ... Oh, Ginger, it's heavenly! But there's a catch. It's a case of 'Where every prospect pleases and only man is vile'. At least, not exactly vile, I suppose, but terribly stodgy. Wodehouse P.G. The Adventures of Sally. 12 Some Letters for Ginger

In the drawing-room below the gramophone was dealing brassily with 'Mister Blackman'. Outside the sun was just thinking of setting. Wodehouse, P. G. Love Among the Chickens. 16 A Chance Meeting

Then, after dinner, when the lamps were lit, and Mrs Ukridge nursed Edwin and sewed, and Ukridge smoked cigars and incited the gramophone to murder 'Mumbling Mose', I would steal away to my bedroom and write - and write - and write. Wodehouse, P. G. Love Among the Chickens. 16 A Chance Meeting

History is full of tragedies caused by the lethal sex. Who lost Mark Antony the world? A woman. Who let Samson in so atrociously? Woman again. Why did Bill Bailey leave home? Once more, because of a woman. Wodehouse, P. G. Love Among the Chickens. 15 The Arrival of Nemesis

His only companion was a gigantic boatman, by name Harry Hawk, possibly a descendant of the gentleman of that name who went to Widdicombe Fair with Bill Brewer and old Uncle Tom Cobley and all on a certain memorable occasion, and assisted at the fatal accident to Tom Pearse's grey mare. This is the most niche thing I’ve ever sought out and I searched for this because I bought the print for a show where this song was the headliner at a prints store. Absolutely disappointed at how goofy this song is but the print is hard. Well done for posting this.

Gilbert had the advantage of being a genius, but he had the additional advantage of writing for a public which permitted him to use his full vocabulary, and even to drop into foreign languages, even Latin and a little Greek when he felt like it.
