A Winter wonderland for sure. You and your family are very blessed to have such a wonderful place right on the banks of the river. What a nice mixed bag of waterfowl you have taken 👍

@johnscruggs81115 сағат бұрын
@ShawnEiker That's true no problem with working hard for things in your life. But where I live they are striping the land and woods no where to hunt or fish. Up in years now and no where to go but up.

@johnscruggs8111 oh jeez yeah that sucks where i am in maryland deer are just everywhere in the city neighborhodds etc crazy
@johnscruggs81115 сағат бұрын
@ShawnEiker We have deer here but it cost so much to get a place to hunt and fish some people just can't afford to do it.. here it's all about money. The farmers around want let you hunt you got to lease a spot to hunt and it's high. So don't come to KY it's not what you think.

Thousands of Mallards here in SW Nebraska a week or so ago, then we had a 3-4 day REALLY cold spell, the lakes are icing over and they are gone.. now I know where they went :) BTW I love jump shooting ducks, it is way more fun than sitting in a blind freezing!

I discovered how to replicate the flavor of a good ripe paw paw at a church social by accident one night -- get you a good home grown sweet cantaloupe and a honey dew ( not those hard gassed ones they sell at the grocery store ) and cover them with a bit of good banana pudding -- the trick is the bite has to have both melons a slice of banana and good dollop of pudding on the spoon ( no nilla wafers it will change the flavor ) and let that roll on ya tongue for a bit and that is as close to a paw paw as you can get ( with out actually eating a paw paw ) -- thanks good vid

Good looking ham. I baked one this week. I left it soaking in cold water and spices for a week in the fridge not meaning to for that long. Will it be safe to eat after soaking in the fridge for that long? I went ahead and baked it. I was just wondering if it could have gone bad sitting in there for a whole week. I wouldnt think so. Whats your thoughts ?

Great video! Have you every experimented with sous vide cooking? I think you'd really enjoy it as it is great for cooking wild game without drying it out. Also, I've read that there is a Catholic Diocese in Michigan where Muskrat is an acceptable food for Catholics on Fridays during lent because they were deemed fishlike by a presiding bishop at one point. So there are lots of Lenten muskrats consumed there.
@meandyououtsideКүн бұрын
That's so interesting. Yes, I have cooked and have a sous vide. I probably should do a video or 2 on it. Thanks for reminding me and thanks for watching.

I am always amazed at the things you cook and eat. May you never run out of ideas for your videos. Your grand kids are real troopers for testing your wild cuisine. Most kids their age would run away when its time to sample the wild meat.

Fyi here on the eastern shore of Maryland when we cook muskrat we call them march hairs. If you soak them in pickle juice first then rib them with mustard then put the seasoning on before baking or grilling makes all the difference in the world, you should try it one time and you will see.

Interesting. Thanks for the tip. I'll have to give that a try.
