So at what point of the primal cane do you stop pruning branches/flowers. And at what point of the plant do the flowers start growing? If I was paying attention, you keep pruning up to the point where the horizontal cane overlaps the next plant? I think. Awesome video tho, thank you

Thank you sir, for this video and information! I am still confused... If my Apache black berry bush is only one this year, she will not bear fruit until next year, correct? And I would then prune her on her second year? As in do her "hair cut" at ground level? Thank you to you, and to anyone that can help me.

I have a blackberry bush that is about 3 years old. We have never pruned it. Needless to say it is growing crazy. We are Dec 27, is it too late to try to prune and put on lines like you did?

Just planted 6 blackberry bushes so no clue what to cut yet. However, I did add my post and wire for next year. Cog Hill farm got me hooked on Petals from the Past and your videos. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.

Could you please tell me if this method of cleaning the bottom of the plant up 15 inches will work on a Chester thornless blackberry plant also ?

Great series of videos, I have a Kiowa blackberry and have had several years of success with it, but I want to do a better job of trellis as the thorns are a lot to deal with and the kids don't like that part so the TPUPS method might be the way I go this year. I do have additional questions about the plant spacing for your operation, is that approx 5-6 ft between plants?

All those delicious berries thrown away as you cut them off...😢 A part of growing food, I guess. Thank you for sharing your amazing video on how to care for vine blackberry bushes. Now I can give my blackberry vine the right care.

Would it not be okay to compost the old canes? Or do you burn them and then put the ashes on the rows?

I'm not sure why you only keep 2 canes? I keep 4 to 6 canes and I think your missing out on alot of berries doing it this way. Am I missing something here?

I am having great success with this method - eastern NC and thornless canes. My horizontal runners will soon reach the end post before the growing season has ended. What is the proper way to handle them? I could loop them around and continue in the path they came from or clip them at the end. Which is better?

I have a comice pear that gives badly tasting fruit. I do have very heavy clay soil. It’s next to an apple tree. What do think is causing the mealy fruit? I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Fairly cool summers.

What is your acreage yield having them planted so far apart? I know that is maximizing the individual plant. I can vouch that the thornless blackberry give out in about 5 years. They just just stop thriving on the same inputs they did well the years previous. Thank you for the tutorial from Arkansas!

Would this system work well for thornless floricane varieties like Ouachita? I'm in Zone 7, and I planted a small number of Ouachita blackberries in March 2023. I've trellised them similarly to how you have here. They are still producing fruit like crazy, and next year's canes are growing all over the place, and I'm worried about being able to manage them-especially since it looks like there is another two weeks worth of fruit left to ripen. Thanks for an in-depth, easy to follow video.

Thank you for the very informative video and for showing several examples. Now a couple of questions that hopefully will be answered. 1. Will this trailing system work on any blackberry variety? I have 4 Triple Crown blackberry plants (planted 14 months ago) in dire need of pruning, and I would like to avoid mistakes. 2. What is the benefit of using only 1 set of wires/cables compared to 2 sets placed a couple feet apart? If the plant is vigorous and healthy wouldn't 2 sets of cables increase production?

Why 3 and 5 feet? Would 3 and 6 feet have disadvantages or just increase growing surface? I ask because my posts are 6 feet tall and my row is 48 feet long. I see that extra foot of real estate above that 5 foot mark shining in the sun. I have not yet run my top wire- hoping for a response from the best grower I’ve ever seen! My own father was very passionate about his garden and I learned to listen well. He fed his dozen children well. You remind me a whole lot of him, and I am growing Kiowa with my teenage kids in our backyard. Trying also - I suppose, to pass on some wisdom too- Thanks So Much And please let me know if there is any advantage/disadvantage to a 6 foot wire, rather than a 5 foot wire thank you very much. A grateful Mom
