Cool tool, amazing actually but my thoughts were originally that, the heat applied to the bolt would cause the bolt to expand and be even tighter fit in the threaded hole. But if it works that's what matters. Good on you for sharing.

@gabehurst8604 I can't remember if I have tried it. It may be great. But other products have not impressed me so I just don't use them. One thing I do is when we use a different product than normally use, I pour some into a cup to harden. So I have multiple text cups that show how much the different primers will shrink.

The guide coat concept is a good idea. I wish there were more contrast between the colors though. Ive been using built in guide coats for years on most primers. I'll spray 2-3 coats but on my last coat I'll tint with any toner a small percentage. Works better than the Optex.

Thanks for the video! I am thinking about repainting my car with hail damage. The paint is in good condition but I want to fix the hail damage and also do a color change. I have never painted a car so need some advice. I know evercoat also makes a body filler that can go over paint with the proper prep. I am thinking filler first, DA with 80 grit and then high build primer and blocking. I don’t think I can get by without high build. Do you agree? If I use high build, I am a bit confused about the differences between slick sand, feather fill, super build, etc. for this application what would you recommend? Thanks very much.
@jeffdickson125
@jeffdickson125 Жыл бұрын
The difference is you cannot paint directly over feather fill, super build etc. That would be comparable to painting right over body filler. They are made for straightening purposes only. The regular 2k high build is the way to go. I usually get to bare metal in damaged area, use filler, sand with 80, then 180, then 320 before applying primer. After it's fully cured (24 hrs is a good rule of thumb for air dry), then you can block with 320, then 500 to finish for paint. Hope that helps

To save some time and money you could have some PDR done on the car first to get alot of the damage pulled out. And Jeff, in the other comments has given some good advice. But, I would recommend epoxy primer over bare metal before bodywork ( filler ) work.

That's a pretty cool tool, I wonder why I've never seen it before! I often use the good old fashioned "gas axe" myself, or a small butane torch if the space is confined. Does the coil get hot? I can see the potential to have less worry about melting nearby cables! Marion

This tool has come in very handy for us in many occasions. I have use it on fuel line fittings, seat bolts with carpet surrounding. And rare steering wheels that would melt with a torch.

This is a tough sanding primer. Worse than the gen. one FeatherFill. I started with 120g first then stepped out. This primer fills good but not user friendly for sanding even for a polyester. I'll pass.

For fluids thin plates.The thinner the plate and the smaller the gap in between good heating.Similar in construction with car radiator.boil 1liter of water and then mix with 1liter cold water.

Your not suppose to unbolt all the way at first. Your suppose to retighten the bolt some and then loosen some and then tighten etc.. This allows the rust to flake out of the threads so they don't jam up the bolt and snap it off for really tight bolts.. I know from experience myself till someone told me.

How come the bolt doesn't get more stuck on account of the heat causing the bolt to expand? You would think it would make it tighter.

Seems controproductive to heat the screw. Either you heat the surounding material too because the surounding material has a bigger diameter than the screw and will expand more than the smaller diameter of the screw or you cool down the screw because of the same effect but in the opposite way.
