We were in DC just yesterday and took the circulator to get around the Mall. I had to call the number on the sign to get a bus to stop at the stop on 15th street between Jefferson Dr SW and Independence Ave SW. I got to speak with a person and told them there were almost 10 people waiting for the bus for 45 minutes and had watched 5 busses turn just before the stop and never came. They had a bus there in less than 10 minutes! Other than that the Circulator is a great way to get around.

I’ve had mixed experiences so far on my trip to DC. It was useful around the memorials, but unreliable in the mall / Capitol Hill area.

Why do they call it a mall?
@user-oq4nm4iq9q2 күн бұрын
Note to DC tourists: please please please do not ride the Lime/Spin scooters on the mall. They are prohibited, and you and your family look like tools doing this. Bring water, get your steps in, and enjoy the sights!

Scooters are not prohibited on the National Mall. They must be parked in designated areas, however.

So that's what they were working on when I visited DC back in February! This renovation sounds like it's gonna be seriously cool when it's finished.

They should have put it on the side, it has destroyed the iconic look of the memorial and in my opinion it is hideous and disgraceful
@TripHacksDC5 күн бұрын
I'm sorry you find accessibility disgraceful. Several options were considered by the NCPC, including a ramp on the side of the memorial. The side option was dismissed because it would conflict with the secure construction equipment staging area and it would have a prohibitively large elevation change from ground level.
@warriormasterdeath70935 күн бұрын
I am not sure if i am the only one who thinks this, but the way they built it seems wasteful. There has to be a much convient way for handicap people to get up there without it taking up a bit of space. Like, how about making a ramp not obscure the structural building like put if off the side or condense it, something other than this design approach.
@TripHacksDC5 күн бұрын
These options were all considered: www.ncpc.gov/files/projects/2023/7866_Lincoln_Memorial_Accessible_Ramp_Project_Synopsis_Sep2023.pdf

Ah yes the memorial with a separate memorial about the memorial

I hope they have an easier way for handicapped people to get there.

I am definitely not educated on the matter but for a short term solution what are options aside from an elevator or a ramp? (I like ramp because it seems extremely high uptime.)

last time i was there was in the very early 80's.... i remember not the monument itself being in poor condition, but literally EVERYTHING around it and the nearby monuments being in poor shape... cracked and broken walkways and curbs... broken and chipped pieces of marble.... etc.... have they remedied that since then?
@markpriorello77695 күн бұрын
It's nothing like that anymore. The monuments are is very good shape nowadays

I did my own walking tour past dozens of embassies. Very cool! I also went to a special exhibit at the Phillips Museum. It is one of my favorite DC museums, in a lovely neighborhood and with 2 attached buildings, one very old. The bookstores were fun, too. I want to check out the other placed you mentioned in my next visit!
