I find merge/ connectors to be unreliable for totally automated designs. Even so I love it. I prefer to do the welding manually in a ship or have 3 of them rotate out via scripts/ timers.

Yes, the tanks are rigid bodies that hover and move around by using forces. This works well for single player games, but is hard to replicate in online multiplayer using an authorative server. In the version from the video I just set the absolute position from network, but that doesn't work in practice because someone could cheat and set their position to anything. Google for "Source Multiplayer Networking" for a proper way of doing this :p
