Thanks for watching! I guess what I’m trying to say is that even with a budget setup, the total price would still be similar to an entry-level MacBook Air, which provides a smoother Mac experience. But of course desktops and laptops are two different things-prospective buyers might need to consider what matters most to them. :-)

@LeoOuyang not really. Most people who are buying a budget setup won't care about a 5K display or a 250 PPI monitor. They are gonna pick the cheapest 1080p thing they can find. Which can be like, 100 bucks. And throw in another 50 bucks for a semi decent keyboard and mouse, and the setup is done at 750 bucks - a far cry from the 1200 bucks of a MacBook Air

We bought the Mac mini for my husband because he has a mouse, keyboard, and monitor with webcam etc that he already loves. He just needed a new hard drive so it was perfect. I got a new IMac that does come with everything😎

I'm stunned with this dude's logic skills...he buys a computer that advertises EXACTLY what's in the box, takes home a 6 x 9 inch box and manages to be stunned when he discovers it doesn't come with a retina monitor, keyboard, microphone, mouse AND a camera! Everyone is raving how amazing this machine is, I personally think mine is great and equal to my M3 MacBook Pro. There are so many more informed reviewers out there that show hard data, and not "seems like" verbal descriptions of this "research." There was no validity to his concerns if you read the product description. Sorry, "seems like" is not science. If you dislike it, why did you keep it? Lets also note, folks buying the Mac mini are not all millionaires who can afford MacBook Pro's...with this products rollout, they can finally afford a machine that out-performs 99% of budget PC's, and is still cheaper get into the Mac environment. My Mac mini is worth every cent I paid for it, and strongly recommend you get one -if you know how to set up a keyboard in 2025. EVERYONE knows Apple is in the process of improving their GPU's performance, it's nearly on par with PC's and the speed obliterates PC's...this is not news. If you are interested in a Mac mini and new the Apple ecosystem, you're in for a treat for this price point as its an amazing deal.

Thanks for your thoughtful comments! You made many good points. Because of its incredible value, the M4 Mac mini attracts many old MacBook users to upgrade to this desktop machine, including me. I think what I’m sharing here is more for prospective buyers who come from an “all-in-one” situation and enter the Mac desktop environment for the first time. This shift requires some mindset adjustment, as we’ll need to pay attention to small accessories and adapt to a slightly different user experience. We might need to spend some time finding our favorite peripherals and settling on the perfect setup, but the process is definitely enjoyable. I do love my M4 Mac mini, and that’s why I’m still using it. :-)

Base price is amazing, i dunno why people are so stingy with the upgrades.... I just do trading and coding, you think it wouldn't take too much RAM but i'm at 36GB usage straight off just with the browser, tradingview and VScode. 16GB is gonna be slowwww as hell. 500gb harddisk or getting the basic and DIY upgrading it is maybe do-able. Maybe 500gb then DIY upgrading after warranty expires. You make a good point about the monitor included with laptop, but keyboard and mouse you can get a great combo from keychron for less than $100. DPI is one thing but a screen and a desk is far more ergonomic.

Tout à fait d'accord, 16gb vont vite devenir limités, déjà maintenant et surtout les prochaines années. L'option avec 32gb de ram est à privilégier lors de l'achat. L'option 256gb de ssd interne est à éviter, et pourra poser des problèmes car trop limité pour que le Mac Mini "respire" dans certaines situations. 500gb de ssd interne est un minimum viable + un ssd nvme externe de 1 à 8tb.

Totally understand! Having more RAM is always helpful, and I can imagine how it feels to have tons of windows and tabs open for trading and coding. :-) And for long hours of use, a proper desk setup with monitors, a keyboard, and a mouse is definitely important for ergonomic reasons.

@@gwaddles I would recommend you actually buy a Mac mini for over a dozen reasons and supplement a mid tier Mac Mini with a base model MacBook Air. The Mac Mini is the most versatile and also stable computer on the market. It’s modular and runs macOS. An iPad is modular but doesn’t run macOS. A MacBook runs macOS but isn’t modular or ergonomic.

Hi Leo. Thank you for helping. I enjoy your videos. My experience when I bought the M1 Mac Mini soon after its release was the same as yours - depending on the task, the performance can be quite ordinary. As you note, prospective buyers should keep this in mind, and maybe upgrade to a chip with better graphics performance if that's their deal. I found the M1 base model chip unusable for Adobe Denoise AI, which I must apply to hundreds of photos at a batch. I saw a recent test that compared Denoise with Topaz for raw photos from the Nikon Z8. On the M4 Mac Mini, Topaz took just 11 seconds, but Adobe Denoise took 45. To compare, my very ordinary home-built PC with Nvidia RTX 3060 and i5 12500 takes 10-12 seconds with Canon R6 files (~20mb each vs Nikon Z8 files ~35mb). Anyway, this makes the base model chip in the M4 Mini not an option for me.

I completely agree-the M4 Mac mini itself offers great value, but prospective buyers should understand what it provides and whether its performance suits their workflows. Like you, when I’m using video or image processing tools like noise reduction, film grain, or object removal, the base M4 can get the job done, but the processing time isn’t ideal. Different software do have varying levels of optimization though. Overall, I feel like for creative work, if budget isn’t a major concern, it’s definitely reasonable to consider other options alongside the base M4 Mac mini.

2:46 you can simply use the microphone on your airpods or plug in a usb-mic for better quality. The Mac Mini is best used as a "Bring your own peripherals" device. Try not to use it as the device that has everything like a macbook doea. The Mac Mini's primary function is to compute, not to be an excellent microphone

buy a pair of Viture Pro XR glasses or the Xreal One Pro XR glasses. The experience is amazing with the Mac mini! For some environments, a portable monitor is preferred. For other environments, like on a train, plane, XR glasses are perfect for the Mac mini! It is useful to recognize how adaptable the Mac mini can be to your various environments.

That’s a great point-Mac mini can adapt to many environments, and sometimes it’s even more convenient than a MacBook due to its small footprint! I’m always curious about the experience of using XR glasses as a monitor, and it’s nice to hear that it works well. :-)

For longer traveling like on planes, I use the “Paopaoyu” Portable Power Bank with AC outlet 99 watt hour battery which is TSA airplane approved and provides 2-4 hours of run time with just the Mac mini and XR glasses or one portable monitor

it's still cheaper than the iMacs or MacBooks... I bought the apple keyboard with Touch ID and a black apple magic mouse 2 both used but looks new and I already had a 24inch Sony 3D monitor. plus I use my iPad Pro M2 12.9 inch. over all I love my new Mac mini M4 ya have to find the good in it, there's good in all things sometimes ya just have to find it
