I hope she finally did something rather than just talk. Why isn’t she out there setting sails? There are two of you sailing, what if he is injured? What are you going to do on watch, call him up every time you need to do something? Take the initiative, get to work!

Great thinking 👍🏻👍🏻As to sailing the South Pacific, excited and nervous, for sure, yet remember, many around your ages have just completed that passage and you will rejoice at the beauty and your achievement. 🎉🎉🎉 Prepare well and you will be fine. Good catch guys, that Maji was a male. How do you know? Well, a simple feature is in its head, it is almost straight on its forehead, the females have a more angled and lower head.

Hurricanes are no fun. Well, the first one can be exciting, but after that, it's just uncomfortable with a lot of worrying. I've ridden out 2 cat 2s with the eye going over top and a few cyclones. Did get some damage in the first one where a boat broke lose and it's bow Td me leaving a hole 2 feet above the water line. I see you are catching rain water off the bimini so I'm guessing you don't have a water maker. I didn't have one in either of my cruising boats but I built in rain catching. At first I did it how you are doing it, running it into jugs but that got tiresome, especially me having to get up at 3 am to empty the jugs into the tank while it's raining so I can catch more. What I did, on my Hunter 376 I drilled holes on the gunrail near the cockpit, closed off the midship drain spot , and installed a water fill connection in the hole. Then on the inside of the boat I ran hoses from the connection to the tank. Then when I wanted to catch rainwater I would open the fitting, close off the other drain with a sandbag at the end of the gunrail so it all drained into the tank. On my current boat, an old Whitby 55, it already had the deck drains going inside the boat and out a thru-hull so I just installed a Y value so I could divert the rainwater into my tank. Due to how this was setup where it would also draw the dirt from the deck, I put inline filters. I lived off rain water this way for 6 years. Never had a need for a water maker after that. With that said though, I say because I know you are getting ready to cross the Pacific, I bought two 100 gallon water blatters for my crossing. I put one on each gunrail but the cap busted off about halfway. I still had 15 gallons in each blatter so I used that to fill my tank (60 gallons). It was just me so my water usage was very low but was really glad I still had what was left of those blatters. I also had 10 jugs which I never used. When I pulled into Marquesas Islands I had about 3/4 a tank of water and the ten 5 gallon jugs. Which means I used, just by myself and I'm good with water, about 50 gallons in 30 days. It's crazy because I thought I was only using about 1 gallon a day. So take plenty of water for the 2 of you.

For the bugs, Skin So Soft and those green coils work good. I've never been bit by anything when I had skin so soft bath oil on.

Careful with the Barracudas. They tend to soak up the mercury in the oceans and not dispel it. Many will not eat them at all, some say it's ok to eat the small ones away from the reefs, but I've known locals on distant islands to not care at all.
@FranklinGray4 ай бұрын
Beautiful boat. Gotta love those encapsulated keels and protected rudders. Your boat will do you well in the crossing but I do think you should replace those CQRs. I did my own testing of anchors setting and this is the order of setting ability: Bulwagga, Mantus, Rocna, Manson Supreme, Danforth, Fortress and nothing else is worth owning (sorry). Holding power: Fortress, Danforth, Mantus, Rocna, Bulwagga. With that said, the Bulwagga held in many blows were all the old style anchors dragged. It's the resetting ability that I am most concerned about after a wind shift. The Bulwagga is my favorite anchor but it's hard to get these days. I just don't understand why people still use those old anchors. I've seen so many boats that were destroyed because of an anchor dragging. As for the crossing, if you find yourself going slow and want to do something about it, stop the boat, dive down and spend 20 minutes cleaning the side of the hull. You will get these tube looking growth on the side of the boat, especially above the water line that is underwater most of the time on the trip.

Interestingly, both the first and the last global fatal shark attacks of 2023 occurred in the Gulf of California. Both involved very large white sharks, and both were extremely horrific in nature. I worry about you swimming near seal lion colonies in that part of the gulf. Even though I only became aware of your existence about 1 minute and 40 seconds ago, I'm already a huge fan, and you're way too sweet and cute and adorable, etc. to be lost to a GWS. I don't think I could bear it.
@sailingtaku4 ай бұрын
Hmmm makes me wonder now if there were ever any GWS in our vicinity! I appreciate your concern. Luckily we aren’t in the SOC anymore so I don’t have to worry about it anymore!
