When panning a rhythm guitar hard L and R, where would you place a lead guitar, or a lead solo?
@sumthinsrecording252715 сағат бұрын
I usually like panning lead or solo guitars up the middle unless they really get in the way or fight with a lead vocal. If there is no lead vocal happening at the same time at the lead guitar definitely shoot for up the middle. If there is a lead vocal happening you can pan halfway to one side or try side chaining the lead guitar so it doesn't fight with the vocal. Good question, thanks for watching!

Very useful information ! I didn't know that high frequency information of the kick helps to cut through the mix ! However I noticed that the kick that you use as an example seems relatively lifeless and over compressed.
@NeZversSounds3 күн бұрын
I prefer to cut masking frequencies around and above 100Hz, like 95 and 125 in your case, to "naturally" get more dominant sub and high end. Although, I deal more with metal mixes.
@sumthinsrecording25273 күн бұрын
I'm definitely with you there. With metal it tends to be more about cutting those low mids than boosting the 80 hz rock area.

Great video! I just bought the 32S and currently using the 32SX (I've had for 2 years) until the 32S gets here. I like having all the 32 channels up front without having to flip back and forth, So I bought The 32S yesterday! Thanks for the great video!
@sumthinsrecording25273 күн бұрын
Yes absolutely! Having the flexibility of all 32 channels is a huge plus. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Hi! Why do you use a limter as the first plugin on the kick and snare drum and not a regluar compressor?
@sumthinsrecording25277 күн бұрын
Good question! For me the limiter catches those extra big peaks so that my eq and compressor hear a more even signal afterwards. This ensure the compressor can act on more of the kick and snare signal rather than just the peaks.
@andreashedlund38977 күн бұрын
Okay, so if I understand you correctly, it’s similar to using a compressor with a higher ratio to control the peaks. In my workflow, I sometimes use two compressors: one to handle the peaks and the other more gently, to shape the character of the sound. Are there any additional functions or nuances in using a limiter, as you mentioned, that I might be overlooking?

hi, would you advise thickening background vocals too?
@sumthinsrecording25277 күн бұрын
Good question! If there is a lead vocal going at the same time I would probably not thicken the backgrounds so they don't get in the way of the lead. But if the background are going by themselves you can absolutely thicken them up if you'd like.

Your mix is not professional. Learn multi-stage compression, parallel compression, manual riding, reverb ducking, tuning, backing EQ carving, doubling, etc, then try again. Best of luck.
@frozenfury00915 күн бұрын
Well someone that calls out a mix in an unprofessional manner clearly does not know what a "professional mix" actually sounds like... id advise you actually look into.. mixing and mastering... is "subjective" with that nothing else needs to be said happy new years 🎉

May as well be word salad. You can 'know' every buzzword and term there is to know and still be trash. I'm sure we could all benefit from *your* mixes. Let's see. :)

Appreciate it but I image guys playing 12-string electric start twitching when you say you want to control some of that jangle. Jangle is the sound a lot of us are wanting... just not too much of it.

I’ve heard you should eq AFTER compression because it can add unwanted frequencies
@sumthinsrecording252718 күн бұрын
Compression can absolutely bring up unwanted frequencies but you can account for that beforehand and there are also sometimes frequencies you don't want the compressor to hear that you can take out before hand. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Having used both DAWS, I can say with confidence that both are fit for the professional. That said, I made the switch to Studio One for one major reason...NO SUBSCRIPTION! I bought the Studio One DAW, installed my plugins and that was it, no monthly subscription to worry about which in long term actually makes you overpay. I hate subscription services so much and miss just paying for a product to own it. Sure, you can buy the subscription if you want for access to all their stuff, but I already have a subscription to the plugins I use so it was unnecessary. I highly recommend if you are an engineer like me that hates having to deal with 100 different subscriptions and want to actually own the product you paid for.
@sumthinsrecording252720 күн бұрын
Absolutely agree! Being able to own the DAW I'm working in is such a freedom and huge plus overall. Thanks for watching and commenting : )
