Great overview, I'd love to see you cover family board games or entry level board games with all the games that came out in recent years. I am growing my collection and I'm a beginner board game player, I have most of the classics and some of the recent games but I'd love to hear your thoughts on that.

Thank you for the comment, glad you enjoyed the video! Appreciate the suggestion. I’m really thinking about what I want to focus channel content on and truly helps know what folks want to see.
@rattenusrattoonus1880Күн бұрын
More focus on the actual games rather than just you talking would make the channel stand out. So many boardgame youtubers just talk into the void without showing the games enough
@boardgameapprenticeКүн бұрын
Thank you for the constructive feedback. I always try to showcase the game itself; but it was a challenge at PAX since it was overwhelming at times and I'd forget to take as much footage of game as I'd like.

Great video. Now I want Flip 7 and Pengiuns in my collection (Trio already is). Uno Flip killed regular Uno for me. It is so much better and more strategic. Just like Clever series (That's Pretty Clever / Twice as Clever / ...) killed Jahzee/Jamb for me.

Flip 7 the game is about to run into a big search engine problem: if Samsung sticks to its naming convention, it's going to release the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 foldable phone next year, and I'm predicting webpages trying to sell you the phone will be much easier to find than webpages about the game.
@boardgameapprentice15 күн бұрын
That is a great point. I doubt it, but maybe we get another S10->S20 situation and Samsung jumps the shark numbering to come off as more "ahead".
@jvy111118 күн бұрын
Great video. Got Flip 7 after game night and played with the family over the holiday. We had a blast! Only played on BGA but also loving Sea Salt and Paper as a possible Uno alternative.

I’m so glad it went over well! We just played it tonight and had a ton of fun with a dramatic 2x comeback. I’ve also been playing a bunch of SSP on BGA, really nice 2-player card game. I’d like to try it in person sometime.

Another great video, my new BGA favorite. Great topic. I would like to know how many players each game can support. And a couple requests, 1) Alternatives to Monopoly. 2) Alternatives to Catan. Thank you, Mr. Apprentice.
@boardgameapprentice15 күн бұрын
Great question! Should’ve included that in game description. Flip 7 : 3+ (they claim you can play up 18 players with a single deck!!! and then add additional decks to keep scaling) Trio: 3-6 Penguin Party: 2-6 Thanks for the ideas, alternatives to classic games could be a fun series 🙂

FG sucked! I got stuck at the same location even when ruling for 1 move card and 1 sprint card. In Nemesis and Mage Knight you are guaranteed movement if you want that. FG fails by having to roll for everything. And managing that tableu every 2 minutes sucks too. The game should have been a deck-building instead of dices.
@boardgameapprentice24 күн бұрын
Thanks for checking out video! I’m sorry you had a rough experience with FG. Understand the constant dice rolling won’t work for everyone though. You mentioned Mage Knight - I hope to get this played soon. Heard nothing but good things about it in comments.
@boardgameapprentice23 күн бұрын
Also the walk & sprint action cards both have options to take 1 movement (with health & time penalty) if you fail the roll. Don’t think you should’ve been stuck in a location regardless.

Sorry, random question: I recently bought the Final Girl starter pack with Happy Trails. What do you think makes a great second feature film? Since you’re the resident Final Girl expert, I am interested in your opinion
@boardgameapprentice27 күн бұрын
I am always happy to answer a final girl queston! My feeling is your second feature film should push complexity up. You can always swap Hans or CHT with new set to scale complexity. Series 1 - Gepetto or Poltergeist, Inkanyamba if want a harder challenge. Series 2 - The Intruders or Evomorph (honestly all the S2 feature films are great options EXCEPT Big Bad Wolf, he's too simple if you already have Hans)
@sapien0101027 күн бұрын
@ Thanks! Intruders and Evomorph were definitely two I was considering.

Your channel deserves more subscribers. Your content is always excellent and well-presented. One thing that could potentially balance the hidden points (in addition to the range not being so extreme), is they could use the system from Icecool 2, where the lower point values can be revealed for special abilities or trickshots.

1) You should discard zero cost cards to get better cards. 2) You should carry a retaliate (or at least a guard) with you the whole time. Retaliate is the best card in the game.

Would you recommend Final Girl for someone who is not into horror movies?
@boardgameapprenticeАй бұрын
Great question. I think the bones of Final Girl are still great. The action card play, dice rolling, and variable set up are still tons of fun. It tells an interesting game play narrative even if you aren't a horror fan. However, if you are averse to dice rolling & luck you might be less forgiving if you don't connect with theme.

I just don’t get the love for Final Girl. I got it based on all the gushing praise from various game reviewers and top ten lists. It’s ok but that’s it IMO. There are far superior solo experiences out there but of course that’s based on my own taste…Mage Knight, Renegade, Robinson Crusoe, Heat, Samurai Spirit, City of Kings, Ghost Stories…..to name a few.

I can totally see the reasons for someone not enjoying Final Girl. My love for horror is also a huge factor of why I enjoy it so much.

I have never accidentally made an error while sliding the boiler room cards, lol. It's super interesting to me that this seems to happen to you regularly. I am always really careful with those and I have not encountered any difficulty. Do you use card sleeves? Maybe they are too slippery..? I keep them unsleeved and they always stay where they should.
@boardgameapprenticeАй бұрын
I can't explain my clumsiness lol! However, the sleeve point is interesting. I wonder if using matte sleeves will add a bit of friction so they slip less. I'm going to have to try!
