this is one of my fav videos on yt that I rewatch from time to time, it inspired me to take dancing classes myself! I had my first Charleston class yesterday, might do Solo Jazz next ;)

Black Americans created this style of dancing during segregation because we were not welcome in white clubs. However, the irony of what we created has been copied and stolen. Therefore, the racism that blacks encountered was jealousy and envy.

I have seen better dancing at a rave and I have done better dancing at a rave... And I have seen people do a lot of these moves spontaneously - because it's only natural. There is so little refinement in these teachers. what in the world ? And I mean even the jazzy style - I saw an older man in Toronto do freestyle modern dance mixed with ballet an jazzy elements blow these folks out of the water. Around 3 years before this video came out. They are not even dressed to dance. The shoes are clearly restricting movement. One of the fellas can't do a hip-hinge because his pants are too tight. Some of them wear loose slacks with the right cut to allow movement but not most. How are these folks so serious yet so out of the loop on dancing ? It's like modern poetry conventions who pale in comparisons to random teens on discord or royalroad types ... Serious academics who are just glorified. But the emperor wears no clothes. Ironically random teens and adults on tik tok are better too. But these are the dance TEACHERS. Yikes... Loosen up your hamstrings and calves, do some cardio, stop fearing, turn up the tunes - and you will dance better than these people . Academia is supposed to teach us how to be the best... not restart from zero and do worse than random people at clubs.
