Thank you for posting this. That is my favorite fall hike near Tahoe. The aspens are spectacular. Heading towards Marlette Lake, if you take the high path, there is a bench right near the creek. If the weather has been cold at night, you can see some gorgeous icicles under the boulders in the creek. I like to sit there and cogitate, about absolutely nothing Another nice fall hike with aspens that I enjoy is Scotts Lake from Big Meadow. Both Scotts and Marlette Lake are great hikes in the spring and summer too.

Hi! Was this hike flat/easy? Wondering for my mom :)
@MaryannHazel4 ай бұрын
Actually, the hike is pretty easy. There is a little scrambling over some big rocks toward the end, but it is a pleasant hike. There are some gradual ups and downs. But it should be doable. And the water is so darned pretty! I hope she enjoys it!

Beautiful trip! I’m planning on doing this trip early Oct. Looks like it, but is the trail pretty easy to follow? Also, would you recommend doing this trip starting at North Lake, or South Lake? Probably the same if I was guessing. Thanks
@MaryannHazel4 ай бұрын
@@bradlee4491 - the trail is very easy to follow. I preferred to go up Piute Pass first because it isn’t quite as steep as Bishop. It is an amazing trail and you are going to love it!
@mtnyoda32574 ай бұрын
What was the total miles? This info would be of big help and thank you. Did you stage two cars? How did that work?
@MaryannHazel4 ай бұрын
Sheesh...I thought I put that in the description, but I guess I forgot. My mileage added up to 57.32 miles with 11,509' of ascent, 10,801 of descent, and 187,179 steps!. I left my vehicle parked in the North Lake parking lot and my friend's husband picked us up at the South Lake parking lot which was awesome. Otherwise, I would have been hitching a ride back to North Lake to get my vehicle. I've read that it is pretty easy to get a ride with all the day hikers that go up toward Bishop Pass. I could have walked, but it would have been a long 12-mile road walk to North Lake. Construction was being done in the South Lake parking lot, so you couldn't park vehicles at that time. I'm not sure if that has changed now.

That’s going to be my wife and I’s next backpacking trip. Can you set up camp anywhere around the lake?
@MaryannHazel4 ай бұрын
There are quite a few designated campsites around the lake, and they are all relatively close. Get there early so you can take your pick!

We took a crew of 15 (scouts) up this trail 2 weeks before you (July 20)! The uphill start is no joke and we hit hail and thunder/lightening near the top (near summit above Agnew lake, on the way to Clark Lakes). We may have broken a couple scouts in the process. :) Great video.

Sadly, that road will be closed until at least spring. I checked the NPS site and they don’t have a date for reopening. It must have been pretty crazy in that canyon from all that rain rushing through the canyon last August.

Gear catch at 6:52 either forgotten or someone out for a day hike I'd guess. If this was a year later I would say it was from the poor young man that drowned in the lake 2022.
