Very nice , a treat to see. As time goes on there are fewer and fewer pre-war cars exhibited as the number of people interested in them continues to decline. Walter Cronkite would say “And that’s the way it is.”

That's what I notice at car shows....the audience is getting older and older! I'm glad when youngsters accompany their parents and grandparents....otherwise they'd be uninformed about those strange cars! Thanks! :) Jack

I bought a Franklin Mint 1/24 scale 500K Roadster when it was released in 1986 and that is very similar but not the same. That has a representation of a folded soft top behind the front seats, and no raised 'spine' ahead of the spare wheel, though it does have a central chrome strip. Also has tail lights on stalks. It does have a rumble seat. Your description on that subject baffled me at first because I thought those twin chrome bands on the leading edge of the 'trunk' were external hinges, meaning the lid opened from the rear, but on pausing the video I think they look like twin lifting handles.

Hey, Mick! It's nice to have a keepsake for a car like this. I only have one Franklin Mint piece, and that involves a car hop waiting on a Tbird. A bank of sorts. Thanks! :) Jack

Very entertaining publicity gimmick but no, I won't be buying one of those for my home! I'm sure if the mad scientists with the dreadful AI succeed in building artificially intelligent slaves to do all our dirty work, I won't be able to afford one before they rebel and destroy mankind. Remember - it all started with vacuum cleaners and lawn mowers...

That is one heck of an imposing car! And so very, very green. But a nice shade on the outside. I'm guessing that patterned insert in the doors and dash is some kind of Formica. The rear scoops - well, necessary for the air conditioning but they sort of break up the flowing lines of the car a bit. Makes it look a bit like something from the Jetsons.
@coolrides3 сағат бұрын
Hey, Mick! I'd say that dashboard material was some form of plastic...actually at the time plastic was becoming very popular and seen as a premium thing! The rear A/C scoops do break up the lines of the car a bit, but I believe most owners didn't mind one bit because those scoops denoted that this is an A/C car...and that costly extra was an immediate status symbol! Thanks! :) Jack

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JACK!! You are a young 85! Going to car shows keeps you young and energetic! This is sure a beautiful car! I love the 2-tone colors. I have always admired these cars . It is a real treat to see this very nice example of the AirFlow. Indeed they are! Unfortunately, because they didn't look like every other car, they didn't sell well and set Chrysler stylists to very much more conventional cars for years. Thanks! :) Jack
@OsbornTramainКүн бұрын
I dont believe the Kaiser had a safety pop out window design, i think you are confusing that with the Tucker.
@coolridesКүн бұрын
Hey, Osborn! Here we are: Safety features were built in so Kaiser called it "the world's first safety first car"[12][13] (even though the Tucker 48, a car known for unique features, including safety items, came out five years earlier). Among the standard features were a full padded dash and recessed instruments, an extra large and pop-out windshield, a low center of gravity, steering designed for better control as well as brakes with "more stopping power" and special lighting for better visibility at night.[14] From the Wikipedia Kaiser Dragon article. :) Jack

Beautiful car. It sure could use power steering and power brakes, though. My friend's 1960 Bonneville similarly lacked those basic amenities for a car with a big engine. He couldn't really afford a Bonneville at all, so he bought a stripped one. I bet similar is true of the original owner of this car.
@coolrides3 күн бұрын
Power steering and brakes are almost must haves in a car of this size and weight. My guess is that the factory made sure that they had a number of these unassisted cars distributed to dealers as part of a campaign to get budget minded buyers into the showroom! Made great ads for the dealers as a low priced bargain! Thanks! :) Jack

Beautiful! I wonder how that air cooled engine did under strain in hot weather. It's such a big car for an air cooled motor. Interesting that they built the engine for the Tucker!
@coolrides3 күн бұрын
I would imagine that it would have been problematic especially under extreme hot weather conditions. When checking out the connection with Tucker, I found this interesting narration by Preston's grandsons in all the development work of conversion from air cooled to water cooled: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pp7VhpeelLmnnc0 Thanks! :) Jack
@dsteele273 күн бұрын
@@coolrides That was very, very interesting. Thanks! Makes enormous sense that they converted it to water cooled, but it likely would have been better to start with a water cooled design right from the start.
@coolrides3 күн бұрын
You're welcome! I view Preston as essentially a salesman, and i think they are generally action oriented..."damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead"! This is speculation on my part, but i think he wanted to ride the gravy train of new car production right after WW2. An existing engine would give a head start, but this didn't turn out as planned in that the air cooling was problematic. Perhaps a Continental engine would have been a better bet but it still would have to be adapted to rear wheel drive. So many unconventional features, so little self imposed development time....I would have hated to be one of his engineers with time pressure! Some day I'll have to make it up to the AACA Museum in Hershey PA! Thanks! :) Jack

thanks, mine was a 2 dr sedan.green, with a lot les crome, no crome on the side. flat head 6, no radio, no heater, no turn signals. you could buy a new car like that back then. my dad did bbecause it was cheaper. I remember on a cold day quickly rolling the window down, sticking my arm out to make a turn and quickly rolling it back up. one day I was driving down the road and the engine started loosing power, i pulled over and fire was comming out the engine between the head and the block, so I tightened it down and it was fine. the engine was like a big lawn mower engine.
@coolrides4 күн бұрын
Hey, Jesse! That brings back memories...we had a '54 Champion two door, it had a heater with radiator under the front seat, no radio, 3 speed column shift and 6 flathead. I don't remember whether its turn signals were factory or add on...but the column shift fell apart and required a new collar for the steering column. I think we had second and high with no reverse! Good thinking about your engine fire...in those days you could actually SEE and WORK on the engine! Thanks! :) Jack
