Hey, Gary! That's true...the condition of the car appears perfect, and if someone wanted to upgrade the drive train they would know that they wouldn't have the added expense of redoing the interior or the paint! Merry Christmas to you too! Thanks! :) Jack

I always liked the Granada, And love the Red!, Fixing to have my 2001 Dodge Dakota painted, It's Black now but thinking about changing it to Red, I'm sure that will be more $$ being they will have to repaint inside the Doors and Jambs! Jeff

Hey, Jeff! This is probably one of the best condition Granadas that I've have seen! The red is a great choice for it and I agree that it would be a great choice for your Dakota as well! It adds more energy to the truck in my opinion! Thanks! :) Jack

I really liked these cars from the beginning. Very appealing design and the hood ornament topped it all off. I would have opted for the 302 V8 myself. It was both durable and powerful. Great car Jack.

It was clear that Packard was a top tier car even from the outset. Little thought seemed to be about weather tightness in these early cars....I suppose you only took them out when the weather was bright and sunny. Only the closed car gave some assuredness that you'd stay dry if the weather changed! Thanks! :) Jack

It sure is nice to see one of these again, especially in such great condition. Only 23,000 miles. Not bad! The For Sale sign says it has the 250 six in it. Definitely a good choice for economy.

I'd buy it....economy without looking the part! And that was even with the knowledge that a friend had a loaded V8 version and had mechanical problems. Luck of the draw, I think! Thanks! :) Jack

@coolrides The comfort and ride is what I miss most still. The last Olds I had was about 30 yrs ago. Nothing I've had was as good, the Caprice I had of same era was close but no Olds, no cigar.

Nice to see. Reminds me very much of my best friend's car of the time. He could barely afford one, so he bought a stripped model. I think the only option on it was the automatic transmission. His was light green. I remember traveling many a comfortable mile as a passenger in the thing.

I think the most similar looking European car to that I’ve seen, in terms of strange curves and angles, is the Daimler SP250 sports car, which resembles a fish! And Daimler styled that and gave it tail fins and a V8 to appeal to the American market!

This car reminds me of a 1984 version (the final year before the Ninety-Eight became smaller and switched to front-wheel-drive) that a neighbor of mine owned years ago. He took care of it so well that by the time he replaced it, he racked up over 230,000 miles. I surely miss the Oldsmobile division of General Motors, even though it's been 20 years since the last Olds (an Alero) was made. General Motors is now a shell of its former self.

I have a soft spot in my heart for that generation of 98's. I know there were a lot of diesels sold in the area I grew up, but very few V6 models. The only V6 I knew about was in one of my neighbors Electra. I understand they pulled it to a stop trying to drive it with 6 passengers and all of their luggage across Trailridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park, I can't imagine the 1000 mile trip to and from Colorado were very much fun carrying that large of a load, either.
@coolrides4 күн бұрын
Hey, Duane! Those sure were confusing times, not only for car manufacturers looking for economy numbers but for the public too! Your neighbor had the unfortunate experience of buying a car that just was not up to the exceptional task that laid before it! In retrospect, the car companies should have warned customers of the limitations of some of their power trains....maybe they did, but methinks the car salesman would have been the key figure here! Thanks! :) Jack

It is beautiful and extraordinarily luxurious. My aunt bought a brand new '74 98 Regency which was every bit as sumptuous. I thought that one more luxurious than any Cadillac available at the time, save the over the top Fleetwood Talisman, which i bet was introduced in response to the Regency.. I think the basic interior was adopted by Oldsmobile roughly mid model year 1972.
@coolrides5 күн бұрын
It sure was an interesting development as the top tier cars of each of GM's divisions became more and more luxurious. GM was boxing themselves in....why get a Cadillac when you could get comparable luxury for considerably less money. Of course, there was Cadillac prestige, which they depended on. Is it any wonder that Pontiac and Olds disappeared, same as LaSalle in 1940! Thanks! :) Jack

It couldn't be more invested in the term "rocket" if it tried! Everything about the car breathed rocketry and space! The illusion was that you left earthly bounds when you slipped behind the wheel, and that burst of power of the "rocket" engine would take you swiftly to your destination! All that, and you didn't have to shift gears....the car took care of that! Thanks! :) Jack
