Love that hymn (especially THAT version). Especially relevant with the insanity happening in the world at the moment.

The end of each episode of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. The promise of redemption and salvation of the words is contrasted with the melancholy and bitterness of the betrayal contained in the show. They were raised to empire and ended as America's streetwalkers.

You don't have to be of any religion or even believe in God to appreciate Psalm 23, taken from the Old Testament. Howard Goodall put this gorgeous melody and harmony to music for 'Eternal Light,' his Mass for the Living, not for the deceased. Adopted by the Vicar of Dibley as its theme tune, it will never be forgotten and always remain popular. As a non practicing Jew, it often moves me to tears and I had it played at my daughter's funeral. When it comes to beautiful choral music, religion doesn't really come into it for me. It's simply very spiritual on a human/emotional level.

0:59 notice how the passage goes weak, starts using minor, I think maybe even a diminished, just before it comes to the big bit.

Zadok the Priest is a British anthem that was composed by George Frideric Handel for the coronation of George II in 1727.....Handel wrote ‘Zadok the Priest’ to be a patriotic British anthem, and the work has been performed at every British coronation, prior to the anointing of the monarch.

This is an amazing piece of music. However, we are spoilt by the fact that we can play it as often an as loud as we wish and even listen within a short time to performances by different choirs. It was first performed in 1727. Imagine walking from street where the loudest noise was possibly the birds singing then sitting and hearing that build up followed by the huge entry of the choir. It would have been a life changing experience.

Always liked it - BUT if you want the whole of Psalm 107, there's nothing quite like Bairstow's setting with its contrasting major and minor episodes and glorious periodic refrain of "O that men..." Twice as long as the Sumsion, but worth every minute!

Tbh, Tavener’s Lament of the mother of Jesus does in fact sum up the loss of so many innocent lives; men, women and children of #Palestine/#Gaza all who deserved a better life than living in endless terror at the hands of a puppeteering corrupt Israeli government whose companies have taken over the world.. thoughts and prayers aren’t ever really enough to heal or bring peace to the broken-hearted. No charity can Ever replace what’s been lost or destroyed. My heart goes out to all citizens of #Palestine who’ve lost everything and everyone that once mattered to them; grieving parents, grandparents, other relatives and especially whom I pity the most, orphans.. 🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸

The church where I worked as choir director and organist had a truly wonderful choir. Our Pastor was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and the outcome was not good. I made up a packet of 10 anthem, most of which they knew, but included this one I had just purchased. We rehearsed all of the anthems, got them ready, then put the packet back in their slots. When the time came, the congregation cried through the whole anthem. A year later I pulled it out in prep for Good Shepherd Sunday, and they teared up, and said no, they couldn’t get through it.
