No sirens. Great footage. This really close to Fort Wayne. My brother in law and sister in law used to live in Fort Wayne from 1985 until 2006.

Hey sjbhall1, do you have an email address at which we could contact you regarding this video? We would be interested to discuss a license to use this video if this is generally possible? (i.e. via email) :) Cheers, Felix

AWESOME FOOTAGE!! Did anyone else catch that at 3:28 - 3:34 ?? I’ve never seen anything like that before. Look closely for the right edge of the tornado, it looks like there’s a cloud literally making a vertical loop and then it gets sucked into the tornado and then you see it start again at 3:34. This is crazy intense and I can’t imagine the thrill of being that close to it. At one point it looks like a school bus is even passing

You're right. As a quite avid viewer of tornado footage new and old, I've never seen anything like this myself. The speed of that spin was obviously in the >200mph range, to say nothing of the angular momentum. As for what that actually is? Really can't be anything but a hint of a large horizontal vortex, like what we frequently saw in 2011, but larger in this case. Those have never been addressed or explained but it feels safe to conclude that an inflow jet, perhaps from the FFD, is getting added to the mix after entering a state of rotation. I've seen these horizontal vortices rise upward towards the cloud base. The only other new phenomenon I can even compare this to, in terms of how surprising it was to see for the first time ever, was the phenomenon of twin suction vortices. This was originally suggested by Fujita, who claimed to have spotted them in the Xenia footage, but I saw them for real in some footage of the El Reno tornado. A multi-vortex scenario where the individual vortices are occasional comprised of two distinct vortices rotating around one another. I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who even picked up on this. But the El Reno tornado had a lot of unique circumstances to it.

I've seen other videos of big wedge tornadoes with that wild horizontal spin ups, seems it happens right in front of the funnel. It might have been the Tuscaloosa tornado. Tornadoes with those horizontal vortices are signs that it is exceptionally strong.

I am sorry. I beg to differ, that is the Ugliest thing Mother Nature could ever produce. Only takes away, does not give anyone anything! It is totally destroying peoples lives, and property, as well as anything else that is alive. It is DEATH and Destruction. It is not a thing of beauty!!!! It might be an amazing spectacle, but beautiful No way!
@rogerandes8

totally agree and never thought of it that way. but it doesn't produce anything but destruct, chaos, piles and piles of trash. the only thing you can do is get out of its way then move back in afterward and start picking up the mess. they just kill and destroy. maybe there's some ecological benefit to knocking down old rotten trees and scouring the dirt, who knows. you can actually see benefits to forest fires and floods, but i can't see anything helped by these things. only hurt

The Woodburn tornado is classified as a high EF-3 multi-vortex wedge. Some dispute arose about the rating as field researchers found EF-4 damage to a barn and a twisted tractor with its engine not found. It was a baddie.
