@@LocalBytes Just an idea as I'm not sure the keycaps are replaceable. But that would be great for customization (colored keycaps for specific actions) also users could install braille keycaps for visually impaired. GL with the launch! Look forward to getting mine!
@LocalBytes
@LocalBytes 3 ай бұрын
Yup, the caps are fully replaceable. They just use standard MX switches so, there's a lot of choice The ones we ship with you can print your own labels and then put a clear cover on top!

This looks super cool! Perfect for those that love the tactile feel of a button rather than something touchscreen. Id love to see a future "pro" or something alike version of this that uses mini OLED screens for the keys like the Stream Deck does, though I know this is potentially impossible using a single ESP32 due to resource limitations. Love what you are doing and will be looking to pick one up and test :)
@LocalBytes

Hi Josh, We completely agree, screens would be great, but would certainly drive up the cost to produce and therefore increase the barrier to entry for new users. That said, a "pro" with a few extra bits and bobs is certainly on the table! (But don't tell anyone you heard that from me :p)

I would agree, Key Caps alighnment looks slightly uneven. I wonder are you using some standard switches? (so everyone could re-use already established and crazy market for mechanical keyboard switches?) also there is a full crazy industry on the keycaps - so they could be nice and alighned and have customized engraved (?) captions
@LocalBytes
@LocalBytes 3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the feedback, @ooisee! We are using the standard MX Hot-swap footprint; one of our early-access groups even replaced a few switches with MX-Blue for the clicky feedback. The alignment issue is something we're actively working to resolve. In short, they're caused by poor tolerances in the keycaps, but you can absolutely replace them with your own!

Do I need Wifi on my home assistant machine or will the ESPHome device connect to the Wifi router and then to Home assistant via ethernet? I have tried setting up the wifi credentials on all 3 plugs I have and none of them appear in Home Assistant.
@LocalBytes
@LocalBytes 5 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment. Having the Home Assistant machine on Ethernet should'nt be a problem! Have you tried rebooting Home Assistant to see if that allows it to pick it up? If autodiscovery still fails, it is possible to add them manually - www.home-assistant.io/integrations/esphome/ Hope this helps!

Thankyou for this, I bought some plugs a few months back and not got around to using them, until Tuya decided to kill everything this weekend. I thought I'd followed the written instructions but couldn't see the plug on Home Assistant. Turns out just using the IP address in the 'Configure MQTT' rather than trying to be clever fixed it.
@LocalBytes

Tis frustrating when vendors pull the plug on things! Whether you can use `homeassistant.local` on the plug is very dependant on your router. Ultimately, Tasmota doesn't ship with mDNS enabled, but, some routers will correctly resolve `.local` domains for you, which allows it to work!

Just stumbled on this video of yours. I bought a number of smart plugs from you last year and have been very happy with them and the HA integration. Three sets of feedback of niggles though: - no way to set how the devices start on power on (eg power cut). The Shelly switches have this but can’t do this with MLB smart plugs - not your fault but the tasmoadmin addin, worked fine but now rejects my login. Seems to be a common issue in their discord forum but no fix. Means I have to update firmware device by device - and the most bizarre one, I found the daily energy stats were resetting at the wrong time. Turns out the time zone in tasmota was set wrong! Suggest you add this to your website tasmota guide Plugs are great and happy to support a local uk company

I'm so pleased I stumbled across Local Bytes this weekend. I've been searching for smart home devices like the power monitoring smart plugs, specifically ones which I can talk to in my home, on my network, without any reliance on a vendor controlling access to my data and in many cases not allowing that at all over an api. I really hope this launches into something big for you, I'll certainly be ordering from you soon :)
