I just finished the series for the first time and this was the one scene in the show that made me cry, although Andy at Julia's grave in the series finale came close

If you were a kid, baby or toddler in the 1990s, then you would be familiar with this "bedtime" theme music. ER is basically and legitimately the nighttime version of ABC's "General Hospital".

Even to this day, I still don’t remember ever seeing another show fade to white at the end. Such a brilliant ending to a tumultuous season. Ephram became a much better person after this.

Most of the nurses (i.e. Haleh and Malik) were recurring, never regulars. There were a few exceptions, though, like Carol, Abby (for a while), and Sam.

Did I miss Stanley Tucci? Or Michael Ironside? Did William H Macy ever get to the intro? Too many actors to cram in 51 secs

William H. Macy is credited as an "also starring" or "special guest" for multiple seasons, but was never credited as a series regular. I don't know about the other two.

@@DaveyC95 No, he was regretfully never made a series regular. He mentioned in an interview that after he got some star power due to getting an Oscar nom for "Fargo", his agents pushed for the producers to make him a regular, but they didn't seem all that interested, so he left. He did come back to make an appearance in the final season, though.

Doctor Brown explained it earlier in this particular episode. He (Doctor Brown) had a patient who died on the operating table. The patient had kids she left behind. Ephram's mom knew the patient, and - after the patient died - Ephram's mom began buying things and making plans, in case something like that happened to her family. Unfortunately, it did. 😢
