When they talk about having the "It factor"....Jimi was the epitome of "IT"!!! He still transends time and space more than half a century later and into a new millenia. That is his legacy. ❤

Chuck Berry, unquestionably the father of Rock. He didn’t have the nuance and the upper limit of Hendrix but he invented pretty much everything to do with guitar 10 years before Hendrix, The Beatles, The Stones...His music is on Voyager wizzing in interstellar space.

He would have NEVER made it BIG in the USA, even then, he was a CLOWN! When he finally started "just playing" (after Band of Gypsies), his fame diminished very quickly...in three years he became "famous", NEVER MADE ANY MONEY, his biggest hit was written by Bob Dylan (so no royalties), drug accusations ruined his reputation, and then he was murdered (by manager for insurance money)...and HARDLY anyone (in the USA) has EVER heard of Tony MacAlpine...SAD. As close as any record company would EVER allow ANOTHER "black (non-singing) rock guitarist": Slash - who "passes" as WHITE. Now "the Hendrix legacy" is owned by his "adopted" sister (his blood-brother gets NOTHING) and an executive from Microsoft. If Hendrix had lived, he would be BROKE and "down and out"...like Woodstock fellow, Sylvester Stewart (aka Sly Stone). These kinds of discussions just make me SICK.

Eric Burdon says that Jimi played the Star Spangled Banner for the first time at Woodstock. Jimi in fact recorded it a year earlier, and it was part of the set and played many times in many cities, Atlanta, LA Forum... Burdon cannot be relied upon.
