@@leeparker9436 I am 75. So, I can't lift it like I use to. The trailer works great. I have a wood strip I built. I use the trailer to hail it also. I can move it around by hand. As you can see in one of my videos.

I put the trolling motor battery in the front, and the trolling motor in the front mounted to a regular canoe motor mount that clamps on to the canoe. I sit in the back to use the 5hp gas to get where i'm going and then walk to the front to fish and use the trolling motor. It balances well for me alone with the battery and trolling motor up front. 17ft Grumman sq stern

@Ralphcanoeingadventures No, mine works fine without them no issues, I just think the spray skirts look better than without them. I bought my canoe new in 1994 and they did not have the spray skirts then. My hull thickness is slightly thinner than yours also as Grumman used a thinner gauge aluminum in the mid 1990's on some models.

I like your water bladder idea in the front. I restored a 74 Lowe canoe and use a E- propulsion motor and get 6 mph with it. When my son is not with me I use two 50 pound sand bags up front.

Go back to the fifties. I was 13 years old. Evenrude came out with a four cylinder out board, the Evenrude 9.7 horse power. We had a twenty two foot freighter canoe. Lots of power , at a fair speed. Johnston had the two cylinder, ten horse power work horse. We thought anything bigger was a waste of horse power, and gas.

Sand bags for balance in the front works, but one day someone observing me at the river lugging sand bags around said why don't you use 5 gallon soft water jugs. Fill them at waters edge and then empty when taking out. Worked great for me with my 15 foot Grumman and 3.5 Merc.

I have the same thing. My dad had a canoe of similar type but in glass fibre.. I had a 3,5hp outboard. So I made a wooden bracket for the outboard and put it on the canoe. It worked verry well.

@@DCFloridasport I have to put #140 in front to keep the bow down. Canoes are more stable with the whole bottom on the water surface. When I open it up. The canoe gets a little tippy. Your Jon boat can go in prity shallow water. I had a few Jon boats. Very practical in shallow water. But not good in rougher water. They bet the hack out of you. Thanks for subscribing.

I know what you mean about the politics CRAP. I will be so glad when it is over. To get away from it, I watch a lot of fishing and canoeing channels. If I didn't I would go nuts! In the winter, I watch my videos. Not because they are good. But. because I miss the water. I really love the music I add. I think that is one of the best parts of my videos. Some people don't like it. I have had a few comments about it. But I think with the right music helps make the video. And if I really like the music. I make it a little louder.😁. Thanks for the input. That helps a lot.

I have not put my canoe away yet. But I took the small motor out on the big boat and ran the gas out of it. As I said before. I have to get into the water to load the canoe onto the trailer. And the water temp is getting into the low 60s here. So, I really don't want to get my feet wet. So the canoeing is done for me this year. I still take the big boat out and do some fishing. That craft, I can use all winter if there is not ice on the water. I have some stoke footage of me going out. So I can make a few videos for winter months to show. But, I am already missing the canoe! We'll chat this winter. Later dude!!!

@@rootwad most of my stuff is winterized. But not the canoe motor or the big boat. With the canoe, I have to get into the water 💧 to load the canoe on the trailer. There is no getting around it. So water temp is a big factor. This is the determining factor for going out. I have waders for cold weather.

@alanaugust8853 it works very well. The right amount of weight in front. I have to pump out the water before I pull it onto the trailer. The pump is loud. I get a lot of looks while using it. But a good way to meet people. I always carry my channel cards. 😉 I get subscribers around the boat landings. Thanks for checking in.

A good dog makes a day on the water all that much better! You know when it comes to quality, they used to say in the photography business "F/16 and be there", meaning, the most important thing is that you were there and had your camera out, and the camera you need is the one you have with you. That looks like some swift water! We got a little bit of rain here, and the Meramec is still real low, but the Current River came up enough that i didn't want to risk it over the weekend. Gonna be looking for a day to sneak down there this week if at all possible, i'm going through withdrawal and the season is almost over!

@rootwad I know what you mean about the season is almaot over. I have a lot of chances to get out there on the water. But I always find things to do around the house or shop. Fall is a time where I start getting ready for winter. Cen the windows, cover the AC in the shop, clean the flower beds. I know I should be out on the water. And this winter I'll regret it. I am old enough that there won't be many more where I am able to do this. Some of this video was shot many years ago. And I had a camera of not very good quality. Our waters are very low. If I take the big boat our. It is above the dam. And there you can only go up a mile or so. Lots of school events with the grandkids this fall. So time on the water is limited, but I would't miss it! @@rootwad we haven't had rain in over a month. The rivers and streams are very low. I have 2 drones. One is a mini 2. I just bought a mini 4 pro. They both work great. But the pro 4 has the screen in the controller. That is a game changer. It is fun landing it in a moving canoe!! 😵💫 I need to get out in my kayak. I only had it out once this year. I got an ebike, so I have been on that a lot. Can't wait for your next video. Later dude🤟

It is a 2021 Merc. 5hp 4 stroke. The canoe will go 12.5mph. So as long as the water is running less than that. It will go up stream. I canoe alone. So I need the motor to get me back to where I started. Look at the discription on my home page. It will tell you most of the specs. You can ride along when ever you want.😀

@@WilliamAM43 I can run in 6" of water. The motor has an adjustment that tilts the motor about 30 degrees. In a few of my videos, it shows it tilted up.

wow great shots Ralph! I couldn't agree more, i get on the water to get closer to god. Something wonderful happens when we push off the shore and our world condenses down to the boundary between water and air... Anyway. That looks like a really pretty section of river! I have been exploring the Meramec river here in st louis because there is a really nice ramp just about 10 minutes from my house. But, unfortunately, the water is so low right now i won't be able to use that ramp again. I really banged my prop up last time i was out 😅, have to get a new one on there soon. I'm currently working on a long tail mud motor to hopefully get a few more weeks out of the season. Will let you know how it goes :)

Huzzah! another beautiful day on the water. I'm headed out for a drift downstream tomorrow on the Current River between Pultite and Round Spring, gonna try to get some footage of the springs. Haven't been out that way this year yet. Was just about to head out to my garage today when i saw you uploaded! I really think the motor canoe is in it's prime when it's displacing, not poorly planing. Putting along quietly against the current, taking in the scenery. PS liked that trailer plunge transition, nice touch :D

Another great adventure! I've finally got mine running pretty well. I wanted to get some footage yesterday but a rain storm came up and i had to high-tail it back to the ramp. The river right by my house is nice and deep so, once i get out into the channel away from the boat ramp, i use a tiller extension to sit more towards the front of the boat. Right turns are easy, but left turns are a little trickier trying to pull the tiller towards me and lean the opposite direction. Rivers getting kinda low upstream though and i banged my prop up on a shoal in a wide shallow, but i am learning so much :) Hopefully get some good shots from shore perspective this week.

@rootwad good for you. I am trying to come up with new ideas and camera angles for my videos. All my videos are shots from inside the canoe. They all start to look the same after awhile. Short drome shots are ok. But you shouldn't use too many. And one bank screen starts to look like the others. Filming along makes it hard to do new things. I can't wait to see your motor in action. 🙂

We have some things in common. Your canoe is a Grumman and mine is a Grumman. (19') You have a 5hp Mercury outboard and I have a 5hp Mercury outboard. You ballast the front of your canoe to keep it level, increase wetted waterline and speed/power efficiency and I do the same with a 30-gallon water bladder in the front of mine. 😃

1:20 looks like the spot! Ralph i took my motor out for the first time and no lie, i dunked it! Less than 30s after putting it in gear, it came up off the transom and i dropped it to the bottom of a river. Some real nice folks helped me get it out. I took it home, changed the oil and gas, and got it running again. Only thing bruised was my ego, this time. 🤣Gonna try another voyage this week hopefully.

@@Ralphcanoeingadventures Gosh i hope you find that ring but don't be too hard on yourself about it. Keeping dad in your thoughts is the way to go :) The motor went down in about 5 feet of SWIFT, cold water. Some local folks really rescued me, one fella was able to get more traction and lifted it up off the riverbed. I made a donation to the local volunteer fire department in his name! But, the good news is, i got it running again, and was even able to take it out last night! I was able to do the first hour of breakin and got about 10mph out of it. Need to add more ballast and take the throttle up a little further next time :)

@rootwad Wow.. it sounds like your outfit and mine are going to be a match. I know you will love it. Mine goes 12.5 mph. The trick is getting the right amount of weight in the front. My water bladder works well. Good luck 👍

Another great day on the river i'd say! I took mine down to the Current River in the ozarks and tried to go upstream. I made it about a mile before the current was too much for my 55# trolling motor. I learned a lot that day, and ... i caved and ordered the 5hp merc four stroke - it'll be here before the weekend, god willin :)

@joricopittman1279 I was in the channel. If I would have been more out in the middle. I would have been on a large sand bar. In about 6 inches of water. I know this river and where the sand bars are. But logs move all the time.

All the stuff i've read says "A canoe is a displacement hull, and you can't exceed hull speed, you'll just swamp it". Meanwhile, it sure looks like these transom canoes can plane out just fine. I picked up my new canoe yesterday, and wouldn't you know it, it's raining cats and dogs here along with a flash flood on my most convenient river. I'll find SOMEWHERE to take it for a spin with the troller this weekend. Looks like you had a good one Ralph! Always look forward to more.

@rootwad As you can see. I add weight in front. I have gone out without weight and it is very tippy. The more of the bottom you have in the water. The better. I hope you shoot a video of your outfit and maiden voyage. You'll have a blast with it. 😉
