I'm a sucker for sharp bird photos, and I don't have over 500 pounds to spend so I went with the 400mm Prime, gonna pick it up Friday... Hopefully it's great for the price, and I feel I can get used to the distance being stuck at 400mm over time.

Love the video Dick, thanks for bringing us along. Yes, the heat in Florida is stifling, and I already can't wait until the fall! Congratulations on the 4-Runner. It will most likely be my next vehicle, and yes, very likely my last, LOL. They do seem to last forever, and we surely do not!

Hi Andy, you and me both, but we’ve got a few more months of blistering heat to get through first. We’re supposed to get a ton of rain over the next few days, especially south Florida. Maybe the rainy season is starting and the temperature will go down but the humidity will go up. I think the 4Runner will be my last car for two reasons, because I’m getting to be an old coot and they last forever. 😃 Thanks for watching and take care.

This was lovely and we love egrets! We live in Wisconsin and there are many egrets in town. They frequent the many little ditches and ponds but are always observed singly. How would we even begin to try to determine where a rookery would be located?

How does this camera size up to a hc-vx870k Panasonic 4k camcorder ? And I imagine the low light is better on the micro 4 3rds ?
@RCScottPhotography
@RCScottPhotography 5 ай бұрын
I’ve never used the camcorder so I can’t compare the two cameras. I can only say the GH5 is a good video camera. The micro 4/3 sensors are better in low light but the technology has improved so much since the GH5 was made the newer full frame cameras are still better. The megapixel count will give you more noise. My 61 megapixel Sony A7RIV is extremely noisy at higher ISO’s. Thanks for watching.

The zoom is TACK SHARP. The zoom is far more practical. The Canon 100-400 mii focusses so close that it replaces both the macro and any 70-200mm! It focuses closer than any 70-200mm or 80-200mm lens. No longer are we stepping back just so we can get focus! While rated to 3.3 feet/1 meter, my 100-400mm actually focuses to 78 cm (31" or 2.55 feet) from the sensor at most focal lengths and to 90 cm (35" or 2.95 feet) from the sensor at 400mm. No 70-200mm lens focus this close - and this lens goes to 400mm! That's from the sensor (back of the camera); it actually focuses to 54 cm (20") from the front of the lens at 100mm and 57 cm (23") from the front of the lens at 400mm! Because it focuses so close, for many people like myself, this new 100-400 replaces our old 70-200 zoom and our macro! The reach to 400mm is far more useful than the little bit of range lost at 70mm, and being able to focus so close lets us photograph far more different subjects. This 100-400 gives much better perspective at its longer focal lengths than shooting with a dedicated 100mm macro. It shoots down to about 1/3 life size, and does it with plenty of room between you and your subject - better than the 100mm f/2.8 IS L. Allowing better placement of lights or reflectors. Flourite Sharp It's ultra-sharp, especially at 400mm, but we expected that. It's so good that you don't need a lens profile for image correction - but you can use one if you like. Part of the reason it's so sharp is that has a Fluorite element. Fast Focus Even more astounding, autofocus is almost instantaneous even with my Canon EF Extender 1.4x II! It focuses almost instantly, even at 400mm and even if it's way out of focus when we start autofocus. This is quite a surprise; every other ultra-tele is slower, while this new lens just snaps silently from one subject to the next. MADE BETTER Canon L lens is made almost entirely out of metal. This lens also focuses twice as close as the prime. This huge zoom zooms easily and precisely without creep, even pointed up or down. If it does start to creep; there is a variable zoom drag setting ring right next to the zoom ring! It's got a real metal 77mm filter thread. ALL THIS AND.... Works GREAT with Extenders

You're probably right, and I think once I become more into Photography and become better I will probably upgrade, but for now I think the 400mm will do me a solid especially since it's so sharp. The Mark II 100-400mm is so much more expensive and I am thinking of keeping my 55-250mm just incase if a subject is closer and I can switch. I will pay 280£ for the 400mm while the 100-400mm goes for over 700£

RC great review thank you . Now the question I have here is the Canon EOS R 3 since I'm now using this camera I now have a lot more capabilities for using autofocus so have you tried using the 1.4 tele - converter on the 400 F5.6 or the 100-400 please let me know how good this works on these two lenses in a response thank you . Is it good or bad 😮 .
@RCScottPhotography
@RCScottPhotography Жыл бұрын
Hi Gary, if you've seen some of my videos you might know that I am not a big fan of teleconverters. I am a pixel peeper and even though the 1.4X does an okay job on both lenses you still lose something with any teleconverter. So, I did use both the 1.4X and 2X on both lenses over the time I shot Canon. I have to say for most people that don't have to have the very sharpest picture every time they click the shutter, they work pretty well. The 2X obviously loses more resolution than the 1.4X. I now have been shooting Sony for a couple of years now and I only bought the 1.4X converter because I can usually crop the image with the 61-megapixel A7RIV to make up for not having the 2X. That being said, I rarely use any extender. Today however, with Topaz and other AI software you can still get very sharp images even using the 2X extender. The software can easily make up for the resolution lost with an extender. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

It also doesn’t work unless nothing moves at all. This is strictly an indoor feature in my opinion. I’ve never gotten it to work outside. In ideal conditions it could work but how often do you ever get ideal conditions outside. Especially if your a wildlife photographer. I rarely ever do and with a 61 megapixel camera I never need to use it unless it’s for some special project that needs super high resolution. Thanks for watching.

I recently bought a new 100-400 GM and when mounted on my A7IV and A7RV there is a slight rotational wobble (clockwise-counterclockwise) which I never experienced in another lens. Also tried it on my good old A7III and on that it does not wobble. I notice the wobble when holding the lens and the body handheld and rotating the zoom ring (smoothest setting) Anyone else noticed this? Is it normal?
@RCScottPhotography
@RCScottPhotography Жыл бұрын
When I first bought my 100-400mm GM lens it was a loose fit on my A7RIII and A7RIV. I eventually accidentally hit the release button and the lens fell off the camera and landed right on the lens mount. $900 later I got it back and the new lens mount was tight. Be very careful or you could suffer the same fate. I would contact Sony and send it back for a check. The lens shouldn’t be that loose. Good luck. BTW, I made a couple of KZbin videos about the lens falling off my camera.
