Excellent build! As a young car nut in the US, the VK SS is the car that got me started wanting a Holden. Had to wait till 2017 so get my own VF SS in the form of a Chevy SS!

Awesome job. My first car was a VK Exec I found in the quokka (old WA publication) for $2500 in 1999. Served me well, but never anything like this. Brilliant work. You should go into the rebuild industry and get paid to do the thing you love. Your son is lucky to have a dad like you.

Hey Pete just wondering how do you go about popping out the wheel bearings?
@PetesBuilds
@PetesBuilds Жыл бұрын
Good question. I've always taken the hub off and placed it down on the concrete so it has a solid base. Then simply get a punch and a hammer and start taping the cone of the bearings out. There is a slight lip that you can rest the punch on. Hit the left side of the cone, then the right. Alternate like that until it pops out. Placing it on a hard surface helps to maximise the force of each punch strike. It's amazing how much longer it takes on a bench. Hope that helps.
@PetesBuilds
@PetesBuilds Жыл бұрын
I say hub, but regarding a commodore, you will need to place the entire rotor down and strike the cone of the bearings out.

Thanks mate, I appreciate the comment about the car knowledge. Been playing with them since I was 14. However, the money portion needs some clarification... These parts were paid for fortnightly until the builds completion. Each payment was about 1 - 2 hundred. If something cost me 2000, I saved for it fortnightly until I had the whole cash. Cheers mate.

Man that looks really great. Getting ready to build out my new shop. I'm getting some great ideas from the way your stuff is organized. One question. Is that a metal building? I notice it isn't insulated. Currently mine is the same. But as soon as I get electrical ran, I'm going to get it spray foamed. Currently I have a lot of issues with moisture. Do you have any issues with it "sweating"?
@PetesBuilds
@PetesBuilds Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. Not sure where you're located, but here in Australia we don't really have that issue. The bloody sun heats everything until it's bone dry. I've the other thing I'll say is that my shed opens right up on either side, so airflow is as good as you could hope for.

What did you do with the shifter for the auto? Leave the original one in the car or fit the donor shifter for the 4 speed? Cheers.
@PetesBuilds
@PetesBuilds 2 жыл бұрын
@@TAVOTravsDIYGarage I fitted a b&m shifter to this one. Personally I'd use the original shifter for the car. So for yours I'd be using the VK shifter for sure.
@TAVOTravsDIYGarage

Yes I want to use the vk shifter 100%. But want it to be able to go through all the gears not just plonk it into D. Will have to try and merge the 2 into 1 and make it work I guess.
@PetesBuilds
@PetesBuilds 2 жыл бұрын
@@TAVOTravsDIYGarage I'm not a fan of the b&m shifters personally. But it would enable you do exactly what you want. You aren't running a kick down cable though, so your transmission isn't going to allow you to hold out first gear anyway, your trans will shift to 2nd even if you have it manually located in 1st. So it may not even matter. Either way you'll find a solution that suits. 👍

Mate that is awesome, thanks heaps for the video. I’ll use as much of the statesman as I can. The door mechanism is jammed on mine and the doors shut ..will not open . Any idea how to open the latch .might cut the door off
@PetesBuilds
@PetesBuilds 3 жыл бұрын
Is the door trim off? If so I'd be spraying the mechanism liberally with wd40 then trying to pull on the door opening rod. Another outcome is that the childlock has activated somehow, that can be adjusted with a flathead screwdriver (or something like it) from inside the door while still shut..
