Yo El Coyote Loco holy smokes it’s great to hear from you. Hey I had a wild question. So I’m still interested in the run life. I was wondering if you’d ever be interested in training anyone? Cause if so I was wondering if you could help me train? The reason I’m asking you is because you made it so far in the running world doing it exactly the way I want to do it. With a barefoot minimalist/vegan approach and you reached speeds that I have dreamed about since I was a kid in high school. I was never fast in school and it’s always been on my mind that I could’ve been and can still be so much more. The amount of knowledge that you have is insane and I was wondering if you’d be able to share what you’ve learned over the years to someone who still has that running dream on his mind. I wouldn’t mind paying if you’re interested.
@thegreatoutdoors1000Ай бұрын
Hey yes I wouldn't mind helping you out with that. I was thinking of coaching a few people online and writing up some training programs starting this new year. I've been quite busy this year with my job and work and all but will try to find time soon.

This KZbinr is likely using the magnet trick to suggest that Cheerios are "iron-fortified" in an unnatural or unhealthy way, while chia seeds contain iron in a form the body might better handle. But there’s a science-based explanation for why this happens-and it’s not about “bad” or “good” iron. Iron-fortified foods like Cheerios have added iron particles, usually metallic iron, which can be magnetic. When you see the Cheerio move toward a magnet, it's likely because of these added particles that respond directly to the magnetic force. Chia seeds, on the other hand, contain naturally occurring iron in the form of iron ions bound within plant cells. This type of iron doesn't respond to magnets because it isn’t metallic iron-it’s chemically integrated into compounds within the seed. So, while the Cheerios contain added iron that’s more visible in this magnetic test, this doesn’t necessarily mean it's harmful. In fact, it’s how food fortification works: the added iron in cereals helps people reach their daily iron needs, especially those who might struggle to get enough iron naturally. If you're aiming to get iron from whole, plant-based sources, chia seeds, legumes, leafy greens, and other plant-based foods are excellent options too. And pairing them with a vitamin C source helps improve absorption! That "ground-up screws" claim is a catchy way to question food fortification, but it's not exactly accurate. The iron added to fortified foods like Cheerios is indeed metallic iron, but it's not like ground-up screws! Instead, it’s purified and powdered iron that’s safe to consume, intended to help people meet their daily iron requirements. It might sound strange, but metallic iron (like what you’d find in tiny amounts in fortified cereals) is a form the body can use-it just has to be broken down in the stomach first. The difference is that these iron particles are specifically processed and safe for human consumption, not raw metal shavings you’d find from hardware. If you’d rather avoid fortified iron and get iron naturally, options like chia seeds, lentils, nuts, and green leafy vegetables are perfect for plant-based iron sources. While these don’t contain metallic iron, the body can still absorb and use it effectively, especially when paired with vitamin C to boost absorption.

I just bought 47acres of land in Canada. We have some pretty strict law over here though in term of building, and I might not even be able to build in the short term, and if I can it max 1 house and 1 shed... I would have like the idea to build a community but they made every effort so we can't here. I hope you can do the project you want, and you get to grow what you want on your land !
@thegreatoutdoors1000 Жыл бұрын
Ohh man really? The laws are so stupid and out dated. For my property my house has to be a minimum 1,000 sqft base and had to have an artect to draw up a plant to make sure everything will be built to code and must include septic and all so I can claim it my residence. We can claim and fence 1 acr as our residence but if I want to build on and fence all 30acr then I have to pay more tax and the ranchers that free roam their cattle on the lots might get pissed. Basically the whole aera is public grazing land and if I fence it I got to pay tax to the ranchers because less grass for cows to eat. In then end, I can plant trees anywhere.

What’s good Nicolo/El Coyote Loco? So I’ve been watching you since about 2015-2016 when I was running Cross Country and trying to get into being vegan. I read the description and it’s awesome that you’re planning on starting a food forest farm with this land in the desert! That’s an idea that I’ve had since probably 2020 and I’ve always wanted to do it. So it’s cool to see that you’re actually doing it. How much did the plot of land cost? And honestly it’s been great watching you over the years and I’m excited to see this new chapter. I’ve got a lot of questions but I’ll save them for next time. Thanks for all the info over the years! Here’s to more good times ahead.

Yea man and awesome! I have been wanting to do this since I was a kid but I had no job or money to. I bought this property online just last year. It was for sale about $1,000 per acre but I biddrd it down to under $20k! The owner didn't seem to want it any more so I think I got a good deal lol. it's 10 miles off of interstate 25 south of Soccoro New Mexico in the middle of knowhere. 2015-2016 I was traininng like a mad man and sadely 2019 was my last race i ran before the pandemic and somehow getting stuck in japan for a few years. I have a broken foot that I injured running down a mountain in 2019 that I cracke and fractured the cartlege in my right foot. Didn't know it was broken untill I got an MRI last year because I finally got health insurance and found out I was running on a broken foot for years. I don't feel pain I guess. I'm still trying to get it better and it is slowely getting better as i just don't run much on it as I did. Maybe another few weeks off may do it but I'm to compulsive. :D

Could you please give an update on the shoes you wear today for training? Although I love the Merrell Vapor Gloves, I am looking for something with maybe a little bit more sole thickness but still of course zero drop. @@thegreatoutdoors1000 Hmm... looks like another reply was memory holed for I don't know what reason. Anyway, I meant to ask if you mean the 'Xero' brand, and if so, what type? The NB XC7 V4 looks great but I don't want to spend the money at this point, I am getting some second hand. Cool thing about spikes is that so often they are bought and never used or only a few times. A pair of Brooks Mach 19's is underway which I got for only the shipping. Will let you know how it works out. New Balance does not seem to be very big here in Holland so there is also very limited used supply.
@bigbattenberg Жыл бұрын
@@thegreatoutdoors1000 I got a couple of pairs of cross spikes second hand. Both turned out too small. I really need to go up even further in size, spikes seem to turn out really small. Another consideration is width. The Vapor Gloves have a wide front which is great. I measured my feet and they are 10 cm or 4 inches wide. But for example the Brooks spikes are almost 1 cm smaller, which is not going to work for me at all. I noticed that some shoes (like the NB Minimus) are available in 'standard' and 'wide' versions. Any experience on this?
@bigbattenberg Жыл бұрын
Not mentioned is the fact that you do all your running on minimalist shoes, which I think is totally right and awesome and the key element in building that strength. I went minimalist in 2018 or thereabouts and it's been great but not easy! Every time I watch this video I am mega determined to put in more miles. I have tried more volume in earlier stages but running 15-20 k every day (at least) just proved too hard around that time. I will keep trying though because I think you are totally on point. Thanks again for the insights and inspiration.
