Have an idea for using 3 of those sections one is the input while the other two become counterrotating outputs. This would be for a marine application for twin counter rotating props. Plus mated to a 3 speed transmission for not only increased speed but the ability to enhance fuel economy.

These look great. I do have one suggestion, Please consider offering a clear baked on powder coating for the raw finished version. Perhaps with a bead blasted pre-finish. You have to know what oil does to raw finished metal.... soaks in and stains it. I have an older winters QC in my ASA Nascar. When I rebuild it I am going to clean off the oil stains, bead blast it then clear coat it with clear powder coat to keep it from eventually obtaining a raw oil stained/soaked look.

Are these the same gears used in late model stocks?
@wintersperformanceproducts4 ай бұрын
The rear shown is a smaller V8-size rear, which uses 6-spline gears. The Late Models run our bigger 10-inch rears with 10-spline gears.

Fair warning on that oil check level port don’t try to run a fitting on it up to a remote fill tank on a racecar or you’ll sling gear oil up and out of it

Does this give any advantage in power or what? Like, why was this part invented?
@NeedsLessWedge8 ай бұрын
A winters quick change is what Cup should go back too instead of their current transaxle. These things were so easy to drain and use the combo chart to make any ratio we could dream of.

So if you do this, does it make helical gears race safe?
@wintersperformanceproducts Жыл бұрын
No, for racing applications you will need to run straight-cut gears. The helical gears are really just to reduce the amount of audible whine from the gears in street cars.
@Polemicist_ Жыл бұрын
@@wintersperformanceproducts I see. Appreciate the prompt response.

I know this will sound like a stupid question, but why do you advertise it as a rear end? Have you heard of anyone using two for a AWD set up?
@wintersperformanceproducts Жыл бұрын
Not a stupid question at all-and yes, these have been used front and rear in AWD cars quite successfully!
So what is the limiting factor in terms of torque/horsepower holding capacity? Is it the shaft(s) that run into the quick change gears at the back? I have seen a limit of about 1500hp for these... What alloy are those shafts? Do you make any in maraging steel? I would love to have a quick change for my vette, but I am sure I would break one...
@wintersperformanceproducts Жыл бұрын
This particular quick change is designed for Sprint cars. For a Corvette you'd be looking at one of our 10" Champ Independent rears. Through working with Drift racers to develop the strongest QC available for those high HP applications, we've beefed up our castings, introduced heavy duty spool and output flange options, strengthened the standard heat-treated steel lower shaft, etc. In terms of maraging steel, we do have a Vascomax lower shaft that's as close to bulletproof as you'll find. Our video "independent quick change options for Drift cars" should answer some of your questions. There are many Vette owners (track cars and street cars) running that QC-putting huge amounts of HP, banging gears, shocking the drivetrain-without any problems. If you're interested in talking specifics about your car, give us a call-we'll build you a rear that can take whatever you dish out.

. . . looks good, sit´s right. 😁 We run some winteres qc rear ends in our classic hot rods in germany often with a long ( 2,28:1) rearend ratio, for comfortable, fast, long distance autobahn cruising speed 😁

How much power and weight can it handle on slicks? 🤔
@wintersperformanceproducts Жыл бұрын
The rule of thumb is: • V8 size (8-3/8" ring & pinion), the rear shown in this video, is rated to 600hp • Champ (10" r&p) is rated to 1,000hp • Champ HD (or a Champ equipped with some of the available heavy duty options, like a heavy duty lower shaft) is rated for over 1,000hp But as you said things like slicks, trans brakes, how much the car weighs, etc. all play a role. If you're running a '32 Ford with 550hp, a T5 and pie crust slicks, a V8 rear will likely be just fine. If you're running a '68 Camaro big tire car with 550hp and a trans brake, you're going to want a Champ or Champ HD rear even though you're under 600hp. Every rear is built to order. If you've got a specific application in mind, give us a call or shoot us an email and we can get all your details and build you a rear that will live.

You're referring to the shifter block. Yes, we can certainly do a quick video explaining how that works. Stay tuned and we'll put one together-we'll tag you when it's posted (in the meantime you can also check out our video on Sprint rear assembly...doesn't address your specific question, but you might find it interesting).

It depends on horsepower/torque, tire selection, and how heavy your right foot is, but the general rule of thumb is our V8 quick change is rated for about 600hp and the bigger Champ rear is rated to about 1,000hp. Let us know if we can answer any questions!
