It is insane that I'm going to see this band in 25 days in Boston when they haven't been on a stage in 25 years together, for the 25th anniversary of this album.

It is rare to have an album with zero throw-away songs. But this album accomplishes it. Amazing

Some years ago, a friend picked up this CD, and idly inquired, "So--what kinda music does this band play?" I stared at them, thoughts pingponging around in my brain (alternative?-funk?-rock laced with inspired sampling?, run lightly through a jazz filter), and finally replied: "How much time do you have? "And do you want the descriptive list alphabetized?" (I finally ended up playing the whole thing for them. They went out the next day and bought it, followed shortly thereafter by the other two.) Extra special thanks for not only posting this fantastic album, but for adding the rarities ("212" and "Rare Star Ball") to the end. I have the original album memorized, but this is the first time I've heard those last two--joy is mine! 🤩🤩🤩

Doughty is a rare gem! They were ahead of their time! Pensacola sound like something kid cudi would cover or any other rap/experimental artist. It’s so fire.

In 2000, I was working on a story about prostitution VS. gentrification in Washington, DC. As I cruised shitty, crime-infested neighborhoods in the DC area looking for interviews, this was my go-to album. So industrial and urban, but somehow nerdy and intellectual. One night a pimp pulled a gun on me and asked what I was listening to. I said Soul Coughing and he looked confused. I told him it was White Funk and he said it was righteous and put his gun away.

When old boring ass people stuck in the past aka the 60s and 70's say music sucks today I hand them this album. People gotta stop living in the old and get with the fucking times. Amazing music still lives out there worldwide more than ever.

Found out about this band in 2023 while rewatching The X-Files. Part of Unmarked Helicopter is featured during both of the 'Temper fugit' episodes, season four. Gotta say, this is some interesting sound!

This is my favourite album of all time, and believe me I fucking love The Offspring and Green Day The Kooks The Smiths Clash Iron Maiden etc etc but this album I dunno it's just something else, maybe I just wanted to be American and hang out in cowboy bars meet girls and be traumatized when things didn't work out, but I'd always fall in love with a pretty cowgirl, anyone...? 😂

'Monster Man', 'Blame', 'I Miss The Girl', Rolling' and 'The Incumbent' were my favorites. I always thought 'Monster Man' should've been on The X Files: Fight The Future instead of the somewhat underwhelming and too short b side '16 Horses'. With the lyrics, it just makes sense.

It's very hard to market a singular dude without a full band. I also think there is something special about a shared fate, an intertwining of creative output and public reception. Love his words and voice.

Here I thought, after so many years, these songs didn’t feel like they used to. Just got my heart broken by the first person I’ve ever truly loved, and it was an illusion. Grateful this album exists and that these songs still mean what they used to.
