You've got to be the most insecure person in the world if you consider loud beautiful Bells constantly ringing daily annoying
@petersimon52313 жыл бұрын
I have no idea where this insecurity issue attacked you. I'm anything but insecure, but if you live near the cathedral, I understand you. Otherwise, everything has its time, loud bells, music from Bach to Bartók (neither among my favourites nowadays - what do you infer from that?), and the silence of nature... But as to aethetics, I found listening to those chimes for a while was in place to me. Each to his/her own.
@petersimon52313 жыл бұрын
But do you know what? I find loud noise of traffic or bad pop or rock daily very annoying. Even a loud workplace.
@Ray_Shabaz3 жыл бұрын
@@petersimon5231 no, no I wasn't referring to you. I was referring to people who have this mindset about church bells. I would love to hear these loud bells from these amazing cathedrals like Notre Dame, even if it makes me go deaf. Where I live, if any of our churchs' bells are "too loud," these people would sometimes file a complaint and have them to either lower the volume or not have them ring again and that what ticks me off. The only sound you'll hear from our bells just ringing like regular school bells like the way you hear in anime and then after, to tell you what time is it each hour. That's it. Nothing but silence from them until the next hour. All you hear is loud noise from other things and people that doesn't sound so holy and Majestic. We don't have any churches that play musically with their bells
@petersimon52313 жыл бұрын
@UCn7V9f-2v815wWeLODcSx1Q I see. And agree. But I'd definitely hate to wake up to church bells ringing early mornings - thanks to my luck, there's nothing in my neighbourhood.

A good question. Unfortunately, I felt compelled to do so because I had to take this over from somebody else here for the purposes of illustrating the book it accompanies and didn't want to enter into an ownership/copyright quarrel with anyone. Hope you can find the full recording.

I was there and saw this piece in 2006. First of all, it was not a Mevlevi group, but a single artist. His name is Ziya Azazi. You can find the whole performance on his yt channel. Secondly, it was never announced as Sufi dance or Mevlevi dance. The name of the piece is "Dervish in Progress", and it says in the program that it is a combination of traditional dervish dance and modern dance (I just looked it up, you can find the program in the Sziget archives). So nobody was fooled here. "Dervish" is a broader concept and includes much more than Mevlevism. There are dervishes in many countries doing different kinds of rituals and dances. What they have in common is the desire to unite with God in trance or asketic practices, surrendering of the ego, and universal love, all values which the artist tries to express here. He interprets the dervish path in a more modern way, moving away from a traditional notion of spirituality towards the very basic, emotional (and therefore maybe disturbing for some) human struggle. Maybe it would help avoiding confusion if you eliminate "sufi" from the title and "Mevlevi dance group" from the description.
