Is it possible to do face swapping with the AI module. I see that it's possible in some other apps with this approach to layers. Is that possible with portrait AI and photo raw 2025?.

Chris: This was a masterclass. To start with, no, the photo all combined wasn't purty. ;-) I know layers are very powerful and I guess it is why I have a hard time wrapping my brain around them. I may come back to watch this a few times. Thanks for all you do even when it makes me dizzy. Take care.

Danny my friend, thank you for your support and I did throw a lot into this video. My hope was to showcase the deep power of layers and give ideas on how people can use them in their own workflows. Layers are very helpful when compositing and if you ever venture into using plugins, the rendered version returns a layer as well. You should give them a try because there are some cool things you could do with the layers in ON1. Remember if it doesn't look good, just throw it away.

@@FreeWillPhotos You would probably shake your head at how much I throw away. I messed with a photo for probably 15 minutes today and just tossed the whole thing from frustration. Sometimes things just don't work. I don't hardly do compositing as it is next level, but seeing you work it is like watching a master play an instrument. You are smooth and subtle in your movements. A trait I hope to inherit from you someday.

Rick great to hear from you! I am super pumped that this content was a pep talk for you since my main mission is to keep people inspired and creating. When it comes to edit color, there are some cool things I am playing around with the tool to see what I can make it do. In the near future I hope to have a video with some of the common use cases of the tool so anyone interested can test it out. With that said, the best thing I can suggest is that you just play with it to see where it takes you. If it messes up your image, you can just delete it and start over with another tool.

This is a great tutorial as it outlines the use of Layers within ON1, something I overlooked. Sadly though, as an astro landscape photographer, I will often blend a tracked/stacked milkyway background to a foreground image taken at night or during the blue hour. Both the Sky replacement and layer masking options though are not always suitable for this application in ON1. Great deal of frindging around the edges of trees that take a great deal of effort to correct in masking, often failing. In doing the same image in Photoshop, the Ai tool cleany seperated out the sky, where ON1 failed terribly. I can gladly share the images with you if you would like to give it a go as I'd really like to take advantage of ON1, but I'm finding many shortfalls.
@FreeWillPhotos
@FreeWillPhotos 3 күн бұрын
Thank you for this comment and I could see how ON1 is not ideal for astro photography. I would recommend looking into Affinity Photo to see if that software will help you get the result you are looking for with the stacking. Once the image is stacked, I am sure ON1 will be very useful to complete the edit. I only suggest affinity photo because it is a 1 time payment and it has some astro photography tools built into it, but I am not sure how well they work. It would be worth a few searches across KZbin to see if it will fit your needs.
@robb7342
@robb7342 3 күн бұрын
@@FreeWillPhotos I actually have Affinity, which is not bad, but still could be better. It does have astro stacking tools, which is nice, but I already use PixInsight. In my transition from Adobe, I also have Luminar Neo which is one of the worst. What I like about ON1 is having many of the desired Lightroom features as well as Layers, masks, and Ai tools within one applictaion. Just wish they were more robust as I'm still having to use Adobe for landscape astrophotography.

A good tutorial I like to do B&W The ordering of adjustmets was very interesting, possibly the subject of a future video ? I had a look at the ON1 document on how ON1 applies adjustments and i cant really relate that information to a tutorial like this
@FreeWillPhotos
@FreeWillPhotos 3 күн бұрын
Mark thank you for the comment and you are correct, it is not very clear in the user guide. There is a definite order however and since ON1 is not like traditional editing software, I think you are right I should showcase how each of the modules stack on top of each other. When you understand which adjustments are applied first, it really helps you figure out how to use the tool to get the look you want.

Danny thank you so much for this comment, and what I am hearing is that you need to try black and white images just a little bit more often. LOL. The order of the effects does matter and I try to call that out in my videos as often as I can because I think it is overlooked. With that said, I am going to make a dedicated video that explains the order of effects and how each module builds on top of itself. I have not found anything in the ON1 manual that explains this, but it is very clear that all of the adjustments have to go in some order. I did have a relaxing weekend and I hope you were able to do the same!

Brilliant. Thanks. I have always been confused about the effect of stacking filters. If I understand it correctly from this presentation, the image is affected first by the filter at the bottom of the stack, then the next one up, and so on. Chris: Like you, I TRY to use appropriate white balance when shooting. When I don't, I use the temp slider in Develop to adjust it warmer or cooler and go from there. @FreeWillPhotos
@FreeWillPhotos 15 күн бұрын
Hey Danny, great to hear you have this workflow down because it is vital to correcting an image when necessary. For the most part I dont have to correct my white balance, but sometimes you just leave your camera set to a custom setting and you don't realize it until you are back at the computer. I have seen people use the temperature slider in local, and then I get told the white balance tool doesn't work properly in ON1. I personally use the temp slider in local when I want to do something more creative to my edit. I hope you have a great week too, but mine will be busy with work. I have a lot of projects at work that are all due this week.

Nice edit, Chris! Cool ideas... I'm really liking the new ON1 and a lot of the new features. I'm finding that I'm editing near all images that are stored in LrC in ON1 now. It's kind of a pain in the butt with all the jumping back and forth, especially since I can't get all of ON1 with any one of the plugin pieces, BUT, since they refuse to fix sync, it seems to be my best workflow. I appreciate the fact that you continue to do tutorials about the organizational parts of On1. It seems like the On1 people have done fewer upgrades and provided less information about these organizational features since I started using it in 2021. To be honest, it is really the ONLY reason I use On1. I don't do much photo manipulation (and there are lots of good options out there) but I DO need a healthy organization and search tool.
@FreeWillPhotos
@FreeWillPhotos 20 күн бұрын
Thanks for this comment, and I would agree ON1 comes with a lot of organizational tools that don't get as much coverage as the creative tools. I think it is easy to sell people on the flashy creative features, but I think the organizational tools are more important since we have to be able to locate an image to edit it. Sadly, I see too many photographers who struggle with photo organization and can not recall images in a short period of time. I think ON1 is the BEST bang for the buck in software tools on the market because of the organization tools it has built in.

If this filter is taking the color values of a reference image, and applying them to a targeted image being edited - i.e. creating a LUT from the reference image; why would we be concerned about the copyright in the reference image? Are an images color range and values, i.e. it's LUT, copyright material? If so, how would anyone know or tell?

Colors themselves from an image are not copyright material to the best of my knowledge, but I am not a lawyer and I know that when you start using other peoples work in your own work without proper permissions it could cause some friction. I made the comment as a precaution just in case and to encourage people to know if they are using another persons work legally. Will anyone be able to tell, I doubt it if I am being honest, but I still had to place the disclaimer because not everyone is respectful of other peoples work.

Hey Owen, thanks for this comment and I think this would be a great tool when you have a photo your really like, but the colors just are not what you want them to be. Through this tool on there and select an image that you think has the colors you really wanted on your image to see if it gets your creative ideas going in the edit. As for the order of the effects you apply, the effect at the bottom of the stack is the closest to the image and everything builds on top of each other. Depending on the effect you apply it may alter the overall look of the image as you stack filters. I will do a video on this concept because it is something that would be helpful to showcase overall. Thank you for the suggestion.

sound like you're describing a lut it's very similar
@FreeWillPhotos
@FreeWillPhotos 23 күн бұрын
Match color is a little different than a LUT because of the file type used to create the color map. Match color uses an image file like JPEG, PNG, TIFF etc. A LUT uses a .CUBE file type which is mapped over a bit depth color space. The end result is essentially the same, but it really comes down to the file type and workflow that sets them apart. I think the match color filter is meant to be a more visual inspiration tool vs the LUT is more of a technical color mapping tool.
