I went inside Tile Shed box the weekend it closed 16.11.88. It had been disconnected but the signalman was still paid to just stand there doing nothing.

This happened to me we was in stadium of light and the tannoy said this is St James this train terminates here. I have never seen a train go quiet so quickly. 🤣

The speed limit through Morpeth is 50 miles per hour due to the sharp curve just before the station. Elsewhere, trains can travel at speeds up to 125 miles per hour.

At the time this was recorded, Sunderland station was closed after 7pm due to Industrial Action, which affected Northern (who also manage Sunderland station)
