This artist director Nazzareno Carusi forced Qingzhu Weng to wear much much bigger size jacket(which was not his jacket) right before his Mozart round, and also right before Tchaikovsky concerto performance. There's no this kind of rule, dress code for competitors. The artist director just disturbed his performance and concentration a lot. Such a "professional" way. If you are professional musician, you know how important it is. What you wear, how you concentrate yourself before you go on the stage. (And he had to play such a difficult program, not like easy pieces.) If you're not musician, I explain to you, it's like you have to run with much bigger size shoes than your foot, plus performance, looking everything has to be perfect. And more than thousand people are watching you in live, or Livestream.

In my humble opinion, of the 6 finalists, Hawijch Elders deserved to win this competition; my second prize goes to Weng and third prize to Simon Zhu. That's just my private opinion to which I think I am entitled, even though I do not challenge the wisdom and expertise of the much respected jury.

@@danny_chestnut253Thank you for the comment, I have 2 ears and I was sitting in the audience so I heard the original performance. The microphones aren’t capable of capturing every detail the audience gets, and your perception of the sound from KZbin may change according to the quality of the device (headphones, speaker) you’re listening from. I was there and Simon Zhu made two outstanding renditions of the Brahms and Paganini concertos and personally I was really touched. Having said that, I respect everyone’s opinion and in music personal preference can happen, but I think your comment was quite inappropriate and offensive, and instead of talking about what you felt and what you heard during the performance, you based your argument on the rumor that “usually teachers….”. @@danny_chestnut253 It's just beyond me, I don't see where Zhang and Zhu were better than Elders and Kim. But one should bear in mind that the jury members may also differ in their assessments between themselves to the point that they may express opposite opinions. In some competitions they publish the scores of each jury member for each finalist. I believe publicity is very important in this case. It would also be great if each jury member may explain why s/he scored the performance of one contestant above the performance of another one.

Who do u like in this years paganini competition? The level isn't as high as previous years barely any European American and Russian violinists competed this year its weird. Also most who competed in the Montreal didn't even apply to this one its very bizarre. All of that aside I like haram kim and Simon zhu.
@musicclassic59388 ай бұрын
@@danny_chestnut253 Haram Kim got his B.A. degree from Curtis and he is now in an M.A. program in Jiulliard. He is very good as far as intonation is concerned, but his sound was too weak in live streaming. Maybe in the hall he sounds better, but the piano with an open lid often overpowers him. Perhaps his accompanist plays too loud. I like Weng - I thought he should have won Wieniawski Competition a year ago. And I certainly like Miss Elders - her sound extraction and technique are insane despite some minor intonational inaccuracies. Yet I am afraid her sparkling temperament might be counterproductive in Mozart and may do her a bad service. Despite the lack of Russian violinists, most of the six finalists have had Russian speaking teachers in Europe and North America (Ilya Grubert is one of them). I hope my daughter Stephanie whom you favored at the recent Tretyakov Competition will take part in the next edition of Premio Paganini in 2026, but she has yet a lot of repertoire to learn and practise. She's only 16 and will be 19 in 2026.
