It’s on the todo list, but I’m not convinced autumn repotting is it. Annoyingly I got caught out by an early freeze that year, so it lost branches, but I can’t tell if it was the cold, the repot, or both

There will be at some point, it’s been a while because I accidentally over-fertilised it and it took a while to recover. It is now strong and was pruned in summer, but I don’t have enough to make a video just yet

A pressure washer can painlessly separate plant roots from dirt at low settings.
@grobonsaiКүн бұрын
That would definitely damage the fine roots and root hairs even at low settings. A garden hose would be better or a bucket of water, but there are other disadvantages to using water, which is why I rarely do.

I use a 1:1:1 ratio of the same, but the UK is much wetter than Italy, so it may be wise to look up what others use, for example @MauroStemberger

This spring I air layerd 3 apple branches, 1 pare tree branch, 1 orange branch. I used spagmam moss, rooting hormone, wrapped with plastic and tinfoil to create shade from sun. Mid summer I checked on them but they callused over the cut. To much water. Traded half of the moss with dry moss. In the end of the summer had roots, cut them off, put them in a grated pot with water tray they now have a couple of leaves. Just worried that because I separated them from the mother plants late and the weather is already very cold they might not survive the winter. Only time will tell.

Is there a reason you don't just rinse the roots to remove the old, already too wet soil?
@grobonsai9 күн бұрын
There's a few reasons, the most important is because it's easier to control how much soil is removed. Yes the wetness is a concern also because it makes the new soil slightly harder to work in as it kinda sticks. It is also cold during repotting season so my hands get stiff. Finally, it makes a huge mess. But it's mostly the control and the cold hands thing.

Nice video and what i needed. Is the pine possibly more than one? I know they do that with shrubs sometimes to fill a container. Maybe it got to grow a while longer. 😊 I'm definitely on a motivation needed kick. I have rehomed a greenhouse, so I am excited to use that this winter. 🌳 I look forward to seeing your progress. I did smile at your cutting off the top of the redwood. Can you imagine the horror of a passer by? 😂
@grobonsai9 күн бұрын
The pine could be multiple, but because they are harder to propagate, i suspect it is one tree. time will tell! I'm jealous of your greenhouse! I can only afford cheap poly tunnel but storms keep trashing them so I have to buy a new one each year, drives me crazy but money is tight. They are used to me at this nursery. The first time I visited, I bought a 12foot tall maple and cut it down to 3 feet, shoved it all in the back of my car, then looked around to see the owners wife stood with her jaw on the ground hahaha they probably grew the tree from a seedling. It took some explaining, but now they accept my ways :D

@grobonsai I had a feeling there would be a shocked face sometime. 🤣 i fitted a 10 foot bamboo in my 3 door hatchback.. with my husband and daughter in. The trolly lady said she had watched me and was impressed I knew exactly how to do it. 😀 Keep an eye on marketplace for those dismantle yourself free or cheap greenhouses. I'm really lucky but watched mine sat unused next door for 17 years. You can buy new bolts, window clips etc. Just glass to be careful. And take pics on where panels go. Mines not perfect but I could never afford one.

Couldnt keep my job or function properly at all, but i realised i had to keep myself busy with something, just to stay sane. I have always apreciated plants and gardens, and after googling a bit i came across bonsai. I live a bit north in scandinavia, and bonsai trees are not easy to get. But yamadori is "everywere", so now i have about 25 trees(and more to come next year). In short, Bonsai has saved me and my sons life!

Time depends on how fast it grows, faster growth = faster graft. You can tell when it’s complete when the branch coming out of the trunk is much thicker than the branch going into the trunk. Usually minimum 6 months.

@@grobonsai Just like us all 🤣🤣are you going to the Heathrow show this weekend? I’m 50/50 on the table design. Yes I loved to see the whole tree, it’s a very different aspect to display but not having a back drop you lost some of the tree to distractions behind it and the pictures and videos don’t come out as good a when it’s framed with a solid colour behind. It works as a visitor I guess, not an on looker from others pictures and videos.
@grobonsai10 күн бұрын
I agree. It worked, achieved the goal of 360 view and less formal/traditional. But there was just something niggling me. It was like the open space made it feel temporary, like the trees didn’t get to claim their space?! Still loved it, I’m just nitpicking, I’d go again regardless
@MeadowViewBonsai9 күн бұрын
@@grobonsai yeah, I know what you mean, also people pick a front sometimes to hide imperfections in other parts of the tree, these are now on full display so unless it’s perfect 360 degrees, it may ruin the overall impression, I like the back ground if I’m honest, frames the tree and no distractions.

Preventing loss of moisture and nutrients which keeps it healthy. 7) Strong plant . 8) Pest resistance. 9) Strong roots system. 10) unique bonsai species to have. 11)Easy to care.
