Very informative video but the throttle/braking line at 0:55 is very misleading especially for beginners. Throttle/braking inputs vary from car to car or even setup/tires. Many of the turns you green lined can't possibly be full throttle with a heavier car or a slightly more powerful car.

Hah that's me in the Celica! We definitely fit into the title of your blog. With the Celica, the team has always prioritized power over handling and aero, so the car is... tricky to drive, to say the least. It's always been rather "spinny" so to minimize black flags, you need to be cautious in corners. We've recently changed to better calipers in the rear, which has reduced the insta-spins on hard braking! You're correct about the motor and car below, it's a 1UZ VVT-i in a Celica.

1. Looks to me that the 3rd car from the left was giving space to the 2nd car from the left for it's pass, 2. Became aware of the 4th car from the left also making a pass. 3 Jerked to the left impulsively, and we see the result. I have done the same myself and seen others do this, also4 cars wide on the front strait is a bit tight at Thunder Hill

@@cyberfukdracing1207 as an impartial observer, i do see some blame on both cars. one for being jerky/unaware, but its also up to the passing car to pass safely (make absolutely sure you are clear before inching over for another pass when already going 2-3 wide)

@IanKorf2 жыл бұрын
It's not that high actually. I cut away a lot of the body with the intention of adding HUGE wheels. These are 215/40/17, so 23.9" diameter. That's only a little larger than the 23" we have on the front (225/45/15). However, I also sometimes use 205/55/16 (25" diameter) because I got some Maxxis VR1 for $60 shipped. I don't think we're faster on huge rear wheels. We do it mostly for comedy.

Nice ride! How would you compare the handling to a NA Miata? Any adjustments planned for the suspension setup? (it looks a bit tight)
@IanKorf3 жыл бұрын
It handles like a Miata for the most part. The long hood makes it feel a little different though. On the skid pad, it's a little bit less controllable. The suspension has some adjustability, but I've been lazy and not experimented with it. The Variant 2 isn't specifically designed for this car but all Z3s, and this one is a couple hundred pounds lighter than most because it's a 1.9.

So Curiois what suspension and tire you have to out corner an miata like that and out brake
@IanKorf3 жыл бұрын
Everyone is on pretty much the same tires as the rules don't allow much variation. I have it in my notes that I used a "mix" of tires for that event. I was using Federal 595 RS-RR, Falken RT615K, and Bridgestone RE-71R at the time in 205/50/15 on 7" rims. The Miata pictured was probably on something similar. The suspension on the Yaris is the non-adjustable TRD kit. It might be a re-branded Tokico blue. The Miata should have out-cornered me but the driver brakes too much on corner entries.
