The hardness of the scifi doesn't really matter, does it? Does the story evoke emotions in you and gives you the happy chemicals? I find that's the most important for me.

A great example of evolving ship designs. Also shows how even older, outdated ships won't be immediately retired once newer ones comes off the line.

Jerry Pournelle was writing about drop ships/shuttles in his mil sci fi series in the early 60s. He noted the necessities of bleeding off speed by various orbital maneuvers/advantages of large bodies of water for "skidding" in after such maneuvers and lateral takeoffs.

You could have reduced the whole video down to your closing statement "fits into the setting as a whole". Your weapons have to be believable and feel right. Blasters feel right in Star Wars and kinetics feel right for The Expanse. Star Trek is God mode for having both.

You have explained a LOT Of things I missed (truth be told). There is one thing that Caprica adds to the story, and I'd be interested in discussing it with you. It's an even BIGGER spoiler so I don't want to mention it here. Reply and let's chat.

I think that lighting conditions are important too. For example we can have a crewmember who has overely sensitive retinas which can burn under our normal lighting

I'm disappointed that Babylon 5's garden/park didn't get mentioned. It provides plants to aid in air filtration, and natural scenery for the enjoyment of its residents. Takashima and Ivanova keeping an illegal coffee plant is also a good example of how even the most rule-oriented people will find ways to get their favorite things, and a good character moment when Garibaldi reveals that he knows about it but leaves it and them alone. Of course, there's also the episodes where Garibaldi is pulling out all the stops to get the proper ingredients for his Italian cooking.

Love seeing the common recreational areas on ships. Love it if they can fit in any kind of garden. Mind you those _huge_ habitat domes in the Strange New Worlds station seem a bit much for that era of Star Trek.

Helldivers 2 presents futuristic melee weapons in such a realistic manner. In the sense that, it contains a futuristic element to it, whilst still remaiming practical. The illuminate's overseers (not elevated) would be a prime example of this. They primarily use their staff to wack helldivers, but when distanced from one, they charge it up to blast them.

Pacific Rim is, in my opinion, the best film that utilises the idea and the imagery of giant robots and refines it to its absolute state of perfection. 👌

40k "Prison" Ships that exist just to spite the "crew"...with Opulence - but are also functional warships that defend a system, via said "crew". The Penance ShIps of the EcclesIarchy. Wandering at large throughout the Calixis Sector and the Koronus Expanse, these lavishly appointed warships are the result of a rare collaboration between the Imperial Navy and the Ecclesiarchy. Each one is the ultimate expression of the shipwright’s craft, with fresh and sweet scented air, lovely trappings, pleasing, soothing sounds piped over the shipboard vox, kilometres of stained glass and workstations made of precious stones and rare alloys. Crewed and captained by condemned and penitent Imperial Navy officers, voidmen, and the occasional Rogue Trader, penance ships cruise as system patrol craft, protecting Imperial (and specifically Ministorum) assets in places where the Navy cannot commit the time or resources to do so themselves. While surrounded by staggering opulence, the penitents are able to enjoy it only from afar. Beneath each supple uniform a penitent wears a harsh, chafing garment, a body glove made of materials that abrade the skin and cause constant pain whenever the penitent moves. They wear filter plugs in their noses so that they may not smell the sweetness in the air, sound-deadening earplugs to keep out the soothing sounds of the vox, and thick gloves that allow them to go about their duties while keeping them from touching the pleasant surfaces of their workstations. Each ship is permanently sealed, with the only escape being death or the fulfilment of the penance. To enforce this, the outer decks are patrolled and defended by savage servitors called arco-flagellants, each a penitent in their own right. While the majority of those suffering this privation do so voluntarily, taking up by the penitent’s garb as a way to repent for their transgressions before they go to their God-Emperor, more than one Naval Officer or Rogue Trader has found themselves locked away in a penance ship against their will. Rogue Trade / Hostile Acquisition - pg 16 sidebar

In the next generations of games we will surely see also drone-carriers. Yes, ww2 is currently the base of all this and many films/games have 2D-characteristics with fighers "flying" in space like in the air. Best exception were for me fighters of Babylon 5. Generally, already due to the radiation and physical realities, I would not expect a broad use of any space-fighters in the future and the few will be more like subs and using a lot of stealth including management of thermical radiation with a shield towards the foe (maybe similar to the sun-shield of J.Webb telescope). In films (less in games) everything is often happening at very close distances, so we can see it. In real space capital ships, would have bad chances to meet even with hyperspace.

True that red is the best ending, but the whole concept of the Starchild AI was so stupid and contradicting to the supposedly incredibly intelligent reapers that I still hated it, and the more I think about it the stupider it is. “I’m a super smart AI capable of making my own decisions, tasked to end war between organic and synthetic life. So my answer is to destroy organic and synthetics so they technically don’t fight anymore. So war to solve war. And the new solutions to the problem don’t really take away the causes for war, which has to due with ideological and resource constraints, meaning my solution, as well as the future solutions, don’t get rid of the actual cause of war, thus leading to more conflict, and thus do not really solve the problem.” … Fuck you bioware lol

The Kill-O-Zap from the novel version of _The Restaurant At the End of the Universe,_ by Douglas Adams. _The designer of the gun had clearly not been instructed to beat around the bush. "Make it evil," he'd been told. "Make it totally clear that this gun has a right end and a wrong end. Make it totally clear to anyone standing at the wrong end that things are going badly for them. If that means sticking all sort of spikes and prongs and blackened bits all over it then so be it. This is not a gun for hanging over the fireplace or sticking in the umbrella stand, it is a gun for going out and making people miserable with."_

As someone that wrote a book around a somewhat novel FTL system... I'd love to get your thoughts on the system there, haha. At the start of the book, nobody knows HOW it works, but if you don't do it at the same coordinated time as the rest of the galaxy, it attracts the "Destroyers" that nearly destroyed galactic civilization in the past.
