"The research for the Ratte was done based on SovietHEAVY tank designs most notably the T-34 MEDIUM tank" Man they really contradicted themselves in the same sentence I'm sort of glad the Ratte was too colossal to be feasible to build though my question is if the Maus had such a hard time reaching its top speed of 4mph to the point the Soviets deemed it a impractical tank makes me wonder how slow the Ratte being easily a thousand times bigger and heavier would move. I also thought the Ratte was Hitler's own pet project not one from one of his Naval officers

It's funny that two huge documentary channels with entire teams working on their videos have botched the name of this machine by calling it something like "CHARKOMCHANKA", yet this small channel with AI-voiced videos got it right)

The Transrapid accident in 2006 was a disaster caused by human failure. But it was not the end of the project. The end came by the inability of german politicians and lobbies to build a reference track which was needed badly to promote the system internationally.
@patrickpirzer40806 ай бұрын
Of course it would have been expansive to build a whole new infrastructure. But that infrastructure would endure for 80 years or more. Conventional rail infrastructure must be completly replaced after 10 to 20 years - depending on the mode of travel (high speed or mid speed). The tipping point are the costs for maintenance. And here maglev trains are much better than railway.

It moved too slow and was vulnerable to bombs that's why it was never used

Believe me it is a pity they didn't. It would have consumed so much manpower, so much iron and steel and so many other resources that could have been put to better use elsewhere. And once complete, it would have been virtually immobile, vulnerable to air attacks and sink under its own weight. The war would have been over far sooner if they did put it in to production. Fortunately (Or unfortunately depending on your point of view) Albert Speer cancelled the project realising it was a ridiculous idea.

No modern tank weights more than 70 tons, and this is already too much: remember what happened to the Abrams in Irak, getting stuck in soft grounds and making collapse bridges, easy target for ennemy artillery and planes, and the Ratte wasted an enormous quantity of strategic matters (and money) The Ratte was designed only to satisfy Hitler's megalomania, and was never realised ...

you know, i see one of pros fofr RATTE, this tank could easy make its own path throug the woods or any buildings area and making same time path for tanks behind him. Just like huge buldoser!!And about sinking... Just put instead of him five mouses or 12 tigers in square, would they sink??and the whole mass of him is not pushing down to couple of square metters. But 546 square metters. SO one almost 2 square metters is one tonne if they would balance him on each side poroperly.

Dumbest idea I have heard all week. Germany could not afford to throw away tanks, A grand total of 1347 Tigers were built for example vs 48950 T-34-85's (whose 85 mm gun could kill a Tiger). A couple of HUGE targets that could hardly maneuver /would be shelled to pieces
