Hello, Do you get any vibration with the controller? In the games I tested I don't get any vibration. I managed to get the rumble to work with street of rage 4 by disabling steam input in the controller settings of the game properties, after that the nintendo 64 NSO vibration was working good. But with Zelda orcarina of time it was a no go. And after you disable this steaminput in the soh image you are unable to put it back. Unless you delete it from your steam library and add it again via desktop mode as you did before to set up the hirkanian game. Happy to know the vibration works and my controller is not faulty but not able to make it work in zelda. Did not try any other emulation. Edit: I managed to have the rumble vibration in zelda orcarina of time ship of harkanian version. I bought a 8bitdo wireless adapter and connected it to the steamdeck via the dock. The vibration was working in game. The controller gets recognized as a xbox 360 controller. The button mapping was a mess, so I manually edit this in the game settings by pressing F1 on a keyboard connected to the dock. From there you select the button you want to map and press it on the controller and do this for every button and now all buttons are mapped properly. Only downside is I have to do the mapping after everytime I close the game until I figure out a way to save the button layout in game. I bought the 8bitdo on amazon. Thanks to a dude on reddit for this solution. Vibration in the game makes it more immersive with the sword fights. Cant wait to go fishing again soon with the rumble function. Cheers

I actually have a different control scheme. I use the dpad to walk around, my middle finger to shoot, and i wrap my index over the controller to reach my A, B, and X buttons for jump sprint, and abilities.

Nice video👍. N64 controller is still my preferred controller for 64 games. The dead zone movement just feels right. But, it's not universal for multiple emulators. So I only use it if playing on actual N64 hardware. Besides, the precision is only really required if speed running, or hardest difficulty FPS titles. I use a PS4 controller for every emulator currently and it does the job😎

Thanks for doing this, it looked painful! To be clear, is the default mapping for the N64 Switch controller not the same as it was on the original N64? Have you tried remapping the controls at all?

I always played with 1.1 back in the orginal but the poor way they mapped the buttons on NSO makes that setting a pain. To make it better, I switched the in-game controls to 1.2 and then remapped the joycons by making ZR switch place with ZL and switching the left and right stick functions with each other. Why they put ZL instead of ZR to function as the N64 Z button kinda haunts me, as it makes no sense and even on other games, it feels like it's locked on left-handed(southpaw) mode and unless you are actually left-handed, it feels really wierd

you didnt set up your directory's correctly in Steam ROM Manager most likely, thats why they cant be found. make sure it leads exactly where it needs to be otherwise, the games wont generate. This happened to me and i had to re do the whole thing so i knew exactly what files were where.

Turok is now playable on the Switch in both its original form and in the remaster released by Nightdive with Dual Analog Control. The remaster has modern controls and the ability to save without a Controller Pak and is a solid port of the N64 classic.

@DrMat

@@Danny-cl4cl I think it really depends on which N64 games you want to play. For most of them the Switch Pro works fine (especially as you can rebind it as I did here). N64 controller does feel more authentic but for most people I wouldn't says its 'essential'

Thanks for the video, I had no clue and now I'm 90% of the way there thanks to you. I'm having an issue with the controller input. In Smash64, the R button = grab/throw item, which doesn't work for me when I use your layout. I've tried a few other community layouts, and all of them seem to have one button which doesn't work. For example, when I use Kinto Un's layout, the R button works but the B button doesn't. Any idea what I'm missing here?

I've not had that issue strange... Have you tried changing the R binding to something else like the little zr button (L-stick click on steam) just to see if you can get all controls working before fine tuning? Good luck!

@@DrMat honestly the new Goldeneye port is so good for what it is that i am satisfied. The real disappointment is no Online Multiplayer. (to me it's a blessing, i cancelled my Xbox live Gold because it was keeping me from productivity, and feeding into my alcoholism to drink with "friends" But once i cancelled Gold i realized those online gaming friends weren't even real, because it's the real life friends who truly matter! @@DrMat I just have no common ground with anyone anymore as the problem. For the past 7 years my only hobbies or passions outside of work was alcohol and Xbox via rare replay and Master Chief collection. Since perfect dark XBLA servers are dead and it's difficult to find anyone to co-op MCC anymore it was another Blessing for me to make moving on with my life easier. For real though, if FPS games stuck with gameplay styles of Halo 1/2, Goldeneye/PerfectDark, and Half-life, I'd be a happier gamer. But no, everything needs to be call of duty, movement shooter gameplay with ironsights and sprinting to lower your weapon well sprinting and no sprinting backwards. The only thing that looks decent that I delve into is helldivers 2, But luckily for me I only use Xbox and a Nintendo switch. So again, I need rehab for gaming or something. I have nothing going on aside from my day job and I need to change that but I need help. And no I don't care for modern Nintendo either lol

swap the sticks in the Switch Button mappings then use Control Style 1.4 ingame is the best option don't forget to remap ZR to A button as well so you can fire with ZR. Also just a reminder you will have to change the ingame control settings for the Combat Simulator mode for challenges and multiplayer profiles since those are completely different settings from regular campaign mode. You can also do the same thing with Goldeneye and some other games like Turok although with Turok you may as well just get the HD Remaster version on the Eshop

Thank you so much for this guide! I'm so disappointed that Nintendo haven't allowed their NSO-exclusive controllers to be remappable through the Switch's menu, which makes this N64 Controller a lot less versatile than it could have been. I was considering on reselling the controller for that reason, but watching your guide showing its customizability on a PC, I changed my mind. I think the most essential parts of this guide are the diagram you made at 4:34 & 12:56 and the nitty-gritty of the "Analog Output Trigger" on step five at 6:08.
