Can anyone help me distinguish between this and the arc dome? I love them both? Why would i choose one over the other?

I still got this one, ordered it from the US back then. Incredibly good gear, so well thought out. Unfortunately, my wife sort of ruined it with the silicone, since she didn’t listen and put it on the seams undiluted and then of course couldn’t complete. I’ll try the silicone for next year and redo it properly, so I can take it on a photo adventure like it was meant to be

Looks like a beaut tent - but what's the benefits of the crossing pole, and how much weight does it add? I'd prefer to save the weight, but it does look like it provides more stability in bad weather (and maybe more headroom?).

A little warning… when you settle down for sleep, close the vestibule! I fell asleep with the vestibule open one night and woke up all wet with one inch of water in the tub. I’m a heavy sleeper and I use earplugs because of coyotes singing. Useless to say that my down quilt was totaled for days…😅
@tarptentАй бұрын
I assume it rained during the night? You can certainly sleep with the vestibule open if you deploy the porch flap as we show here --> www.tarptent.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/2024May_RainbowPoly-14-1030x579.jpg

I love this Tent. The interior space is perfect for two persons. The stability with 4 trekking poles is storm & bulletproof. Only things what i missed was some corner tensioners for the inner and the nice windows from the dipole li version.

Lame comment. It's about 125g heavier than it's main competitor, the xmid 2, and you get better wind worthiness and better internal space, smaller footprint and better ventilation options. Not to knock the x-mid as it is also fantastic.

This tent is superior to the durston.
@praktika10822 ай бұрын
I reckon the Durston folks have been very clever about their marketing. As for the tents themselves, the biggest difference seems to be where these tents are made. Yours, as far as I understand it, are made in the USA. The Durston tents are made in China and Vietnam. This might matter to people who appreciate and support made in USA products.

So this is my favorite tent of all 7 I have owned. From Durston, to GG to Zpacks to BA to MLD. So much so that I have the 2 and the 1. But after using them for over a year on multiple Thru-Hikes may I make a few suggestions. Please make the vestibules larger. It's kinda dangerous to cook in them as they are so small. The other thing is the Dyneema cords on the ends, I have had them drip water into my tent constantly when it rains. I would put a small rubber washer around the top fabric and it would probably fix the issue. Otherwise, truly amazing design!

Hey on the website it says all Tarptent set up fly first, how is that possible in this one ?
@tarptent2 ай бұрын
Fly first in this case means that you can leave the fly attached in the interior and then it can set up and takedown as one unit to keep the interior protected from rain.

Why exactly is this task outsourced to customers in the UL market?
@tarptent2 ай бұрын
We also offer a service. Silicone coated fabrics cannot be seam taped and need to be hand painted. Once done, however, the lifespan is the life of the tent unlike polyurethane taping which breaks down over time.

I love this shape of tent the pole sleeves look very tight tho and the cross over is a potential weak spot as the poles can rub together and wear the lower sleeve or if the carbon poles this will weaken them.
@tarptent2 ай бұрын
That is incorrect. The poles can NOT rub together and the lower sleeve is highly reinforced,

do you recommend using a tarp beneath the Scarp 1?

Ah well, he can complain all he wants, but he should patent an idea if he wants to make claims that somebody is stealing it. He did an amazing job in designing (and hyping up!) the X-Mid, but the I find some of his more recent statements (e.g. "other companies following our ideas") to be a bit childish. If it's patented, you can take action. If it's not, too bad, it's a competitive market.

This looks fantastic, I would buy one now if it was clip on instead of slide through poles. Is there a structural reason to go for slide through? Curious
@tarptent3 ай бұрын
Sleeves offer continuous fabric support for the underlying structure from end to end. Clip points support to only those points and nowhere else in between.
