Are there videos available to help learn how to use/proram the NMS800?

You picked the best DRO for the application - Not a lot of people know about Newall

Hi Marcus. I think your video will be very helpful since I bought a Newall NMS 300 DRO and am just starting the installation on my new Precision Matthews lathe. You're right that there's nothing out there and limited instructions for installing the unit. I'm an older machinist, but never too old to learn something from someone else. You took your time assembling and mounting it and I want precision readings from a quality instrument. So I'm doing it the same way. Thanks for the guidance and tips.

As a note, I have a nice 16-40 with an excellent (WIDE!) slide for the X-Axis and I still haven't had the time, BUT I would mount the scale on the front as the scale is about 3/8" wider than a normal glass scale (including guard) and I find myself bumping the guard more than I would like when drilling or using the tailstock.

Thanks for all the information! I just pulled both of my front wheels off just to make sure nothing was bound up and sure enough my 2020 s1000rr wasn't perfect! When I lowered the bike I must of bumped something because one fork tube was 2-3mm lower on one side and I probably would of never caught it even if took the forks out to get cut. The progressive feel my brakes have now along with my ceramic bearings is just insane how nice it feels. I truly appreciate the information man!

I'm probably guilty of over tightening the lower triple pinch bolts. With the turn down fork tubes and aluminum spacers, I'm always nervous about the forks sliding up the clamps and hitting the front tire. How much torque should we put on those bolts?

Pinch bolts by the book (Lower Triples and for axle/receiver) are 16.5lbs by the book. HONESTLY, put about 22-25lbs on the top triple clamp pinch bolts and that will hold the fork by itself. I cannot understate that putting anti-seize on the bolts allows the bolts to be more effectively tightened and prevent bolts from stripping out.

Hi Marcus. Thanks for the nice video. I plan to install a Newall readout on a 12 x 36 lathe in my home workshop, and your video was very helpful. On the cross slide I'm trying to devise bracketry that will allow the tailstock to be positioned all the way up against the carriage. I'm thinking it will hang off the back of the cross slide so as to not obstruct tailstock positioning or spindle swing. Assuming I'm successful I will share with you when complete. :-

I am going to move the cross slide scale and reader to the front of the slide (Chuck Side). The slide on this lathe is really wide (WHICH I AM THANKFUL FOR!) and that is causing an issue. YOU WILL LOVE THIS PRODUCT. This combined with my lathe. It is completely consistent and percise!

@@marcusmcbain Humm..., I didn't think about putting it on the front side. I'll have to investigate the available space on mine. However, I do find myself thinking I might easily smash it in that location. Thanks so much for sharing.

Thanks for the video. I am currently installing a newall on my victor lathe with a taper attachment and couldn't find any videos for info until I found yours, it was helpful. Thanks for taking the time to post.

Yeah, I went through the same thing. When you setup the readout, Newall Tech Support in the states IS VERY HELPFUL. I couldn't figure out the encoder settings and they got me sorted out with a short phone call.
